WILMINGTON, NORTH CAROLINA -- I was making a left turn and a young guy passed me in the left lane. It was only a two-lane highway right after a stop light. I had my signal light on to turn left and he passed as I was turned and I hit him on the passenger side. He received a ticket from the state patrol officer (NC). The insurance adjuster, Ann **, told me that I should be able to go ahead and get the rental car and she would get it put through as soon as possible.

The next day I called her and she told me that her supervisor had rejected the claim and they would not pay anything. The towing was $185, the rental was $73, and to get the car towed to my home was another $44. They stated that when the driver is at fault at any percentage, they can reject the claim. They admitted the young guy was at fault practically 95% but they said because I could have avoided the accident, they would not cover the claim. This is bull. I would not ever use this insurance company. They are thieves and liars. May God rain down on them.

Police report narrative (EXACTLY how it is in the police report (names removed): "Driver #2 (me) told me that he was NB on 35th Ave. SW in the curb lane when vehicle #1 put on her turn signal and moved into his lane causing him to swerve to get out of the way. This action forced him into striking vehicle #3 (legally parked). Driver #1 (her) told me that she put on her turn signal and began to change lanes when she saw that #2 was in the curb lane and moved back into her own lane. #1 was NB in the inside lane at the time. #2 (me) told me that he was just behind #1 putting him in her blind spot. #1 was cited for an unsafe lane change..."

On 8/21/2014 Encompass claims adjuster Andy ** called me at 10:30 am and denied the claim, stating to me on the phone "You made an unsafe swerve so we are denying liability."

WOODRIDGE, ILLINOIS -- A college girl that was insured by Encompass Insurance Company blew through a stop sign as I approached the intersection while I had no stop. The other driver got a ticket. My vehicle was totaled. They only offered 50 percent of what my vehicle was worth. They only appraised it at $1,600 but the cheap shady company would only offer 50 percent of that. The girl went to court to try and get out of the ticket where they found her 100 percent at fault.

I faxed the court documents to her company, I never heard back. A third party arbitrator got involved because my company said we shouldn't have to accept 50 percent blame. They decided she should get 80 blame which seemed low but whatever. So I called Encompass and said I wanted a new check for 80 percent of my vehicle. The claims adjuster Rudy who is very rude said he didn't care about the court documents or the third party arbitrator. He said most he would pay is still 50 percent of my vehicle still. This company is a complete joke and should be put out of business for their shady corrupt practices.

GEORGIA -- Spoke with claims representative Steven Yi, the man was rude and extremely disrespectful during the intake of my claims conversation.
***published here https://insurify.com/compare-insurance-companies/encompass-vs-liberty-mutual***

I kept thinking to myself are these calls being recorded? He raised his voice several times during the conversation during the claim intake and kept looking for ways to deny my claim. He was the absolute worst claims representative and I would stay clear of this company. When we pay the insurance is premium for coverage is a piece of mind knowing you have coverage in place in the event of a covered loss. Now when there is a claim how the company responds. is extremely important! Being nasty on the phone to customers will result in polices being cancelled and negative online reviews. Stay clear of this company.

GEORGIA -- We had a bumper fly off a car and hit us on the interstate. The repair estimate was $2,275. I have been fighting all week with Encompass to try to get this paid. They have tried to put aftermarket and refurbished parts on my car. Luckily, I have a trustworthy shop owner and he has integrity. We pay for full coverage insurance WHY is this such a hassle???? Not impressed with them at all. We have never filed a claim. The roadside assistance has left us stranded all 3 times we have tried to use it. We are changing companies for sure!!!!

WOODRIDGE, ILLINOIS -- This company should be ashamed of themselves! They cancelled my son's insurance policy because he had a TWO WEEK lapse in coverage for a vehicle that was inoperable!!! His old car no longer ran and he was in the process of getting a new vehicle so WHY would he keep coverage on a $500 vehicle that was sitting in a driveway??!! He is 22 years old, lives on his own and this "company" decides after covering him for TWO MONTHS that they are cancelling his insurance – and now we have to find a new insurance company…..What a crock!

I would NEVER do business with a company like this had I known this is how they operate. Someone should turn them in to the BBB.

NEW YORK -- I was hit by someone insured by Encompass. I was stopped on the parkway, he slammed into me and pushed me into the car in front of me. Encompass said they would pick up 100%. My car was totaled. 5 days after the accident they told me to remove my car from the body shop and find a place to junk it. My car was not drivable, they told me they would not pay for the tow and they would deduct $1,800 for the salvage of the car. HUH??? I have to do all the work and then give Encompass $1,800???

She suggested I go through my own insurance co and they would get the money back from Encompass. I went back to the body shop and they were in shock! None of them had ever heard of such a thing. The person who owns the car lives in a VERY RICH area of Long Island, you would think that they would have better insurance.

Denying Liability Claim

WOODRIDGE, ILLINOIS -- Their insured hit my 16 year old daughter's car with his Lexus. Police officers on the scene said their insured admitted fault, police crash report clearly puts all fault on their driver. They only offer to pay me ~50% of the value of the car (my daughter's car) that their driver totaled. They say they have determined her to be 30% at fault. They have no proof of this but say I can file with my insurance if I don't like it. Seems like the modus operandi of this company based on the other reviews I see. Maybe time for class action suit?

Stonewalling Liability Claim

CALIFORNIA -- One of their insureds sideswiped me and then kept going. They were cited with reckless driving by the police. (I was given the option of pressing charges for criminal hit-and-run, which in retrospect I probably should have done). After failing for a day to return my calls, I finally found someone high enough at Encompass to put me in touch with the assigned claims adjuster.

When I asked about getting my car repaired and getting a rental car, she told me that nothing would be done until they completed a “thorough investigation to establish fault” at some point in the indefinite future. When I pointed out that their insured had been cited and I had not, I was told that the police report was irrelevant to their determination of liability.

At that point I filed a collision claim with my own insurance company (Geico), which dealt with my claim promptly and efficiently. I will let Geico see if they can squeeze payment (including my collision deductible) out of Encompass. I will also contact their insured and let him know that in all likelihood I will be taking him to court. Should you happen to read this while considering buying insurance from Encompass, don't. They do not have your back, and remember, ultimately you personally are liable for any damage you cause.

FRESNO, CALIFORNIA -- Encompass driver blew a red light, t-boned my vehicle. Encompass says they are investigating. Over a month later, never once have they returned my calls. If I can't find someone in the office then I can't talk to them. Every time I talk to them, they try to say I am at fault, even though the Police Report, and Witnesses say that their driver ran a red light.

My last conversation with them today was with the agent from Encompass. Dott tried to tell me I need to slow down and check while I'm driving through a green light to protect myself and my family. If I fail to do so I am at fault because I am a bad driver. Are you kidding me, I have to slow down and look if your driver is going to run the red light, and if I don't I'm a bad driver? What a joke!
