Prestige Cabinets Complaint - Customer service, Warranty Claims - Kitchen Cabinets

Kitchen Cabinets - Complaint
Review by Mark-O on 2006-08-29
OCALA, FLORIDA -- Prestige Cabinets of Independence, KS manufactures kitchen cabinets and distributes through a network of local distributors and Big Box retailers.Prestige has recently be acquired by RSI Holding, located in Newport Beach, CA. While the company claims customer satisfaction as a key policy, the reality is somewhat different.
In February of 2006 I purchased a complete set of kitchen cabinets from a local dealer of Prestige. Three of the dozen or so cabinets arrived with clear manufacturing defects. Issues such as poor or bad fit, shoddy joinery and poor finish. Clearly these defects should have been picked up during a routine quality check at the factory. It took six weeks for the factory to replace the bad cabinets with new ones. The replacement cabinets arrived with a completely different finish than the original order placed in February '06. Additionally, the end cabinet was sent with bare wood when a finished end was specified. The local dealer ordered a finished end skin (another six weeks wait) which arrived with clearly visible runs in the finish. To date after several requests I have not recieved the touch-up paint kit which should have been sent with the original order.
In all fairness to my local dealer they are as frustrated as I am with the response from Prestige. I have been told I am not the only client upset with the Prestige product line. I was given the phone number of the regional rep. for Prestige and called him to find out what was going on. He told me he would look into it. After two months of not hearing from him I sent him an email expressing my dissatisfaction. His response was, he didn't recall my phone conversation and encouraged me to hire a lawyer if I was unhappy. I can only conclude Prestige encourages litigation to settle warranty claims. Frankly I believe this to be an outrageous contention since Prestige has had my money for over seven months and I have yet to receive what I paid for. I would encourage anyone considering Prestige Cabinets to look elsewhere for their kitchen needs.

100% correct. The huge mistake I made was dealing with them and their dealer. They dont even answer emails when you want to spend more. I think I'll rip out their junk and replace. Poorest quality control possibe. Run dont walk away from these losers.

I bought a full Prestige kitchen (Over 20 Cabinets) in May of 2008. It went very smoothly and the cabinets are beautiful, The finish is better than any I've seen in the Big Box home centers. One door had a blemish that was borderline unacceptable. The dealer that I bought from was very responsive and insisted that I let him order a replacement door. It came in TWO weeks and he came back and installed it himself, obviously at no charge. My designer/dealer says that Prestige is terrific in terms of customer service. That has been my experience. I have friends that have spent more on comparable cabinet styles in Home Centers and have had nothing but nightmares. I have a few friends that have spent four times what I did for full custom kitchen cabinets and waited 14 weeks for them to come in and there were still issues. Maybe because the above review took place 2 years ago things have changed. My dealer did say that they've worked very hard at reducing errors and increasing quality control. In my experience that shows. I'm told that it is very rare that a remodeling job goes with out some kind of hitch, but it is how the people responsible for their part of the project respond that makes the project successful (or not). I am completely satisfied with my dealer and with Prestige Cabinets and I would recommend them to friends and family!

We made the same mistake of purchasing Prestige Cabinets from Singer Kitchens in New Orleans. I just wrote a review of my own to post here and have included a photo as well. Do not buy these poorly made cabinets. They are not worth the money.

I beg to differ. I am currently a dealer for the last 6 years and before that an employee of two contractors for 8-9 years for a total of almost 15 years. Any contractor who says it takes more than 2 weeks or slightly more with shipping is either blaming the company for their procrastination or doesn't know how to order the replacement product correctly. Prestige has always been quick to send out replacement product or if anything has been forgotten on the original order or more trim is needed or the customer decides to add a cabinet or two to the project I have always found their response to be very fast. There was a period when they were changing plants where some problems occurred but that was relatively short lived. I have them in my own house and am quite pleased. As far as overall quality goes, yes there are better and more expensive cabinets available but dollar for dollar I feel you cannot find a better balance of quality/price.
I recently had a job that was mine if I could match a stain color for a client. It was a light reddish stain with glaze on Alder and they loved my price but I could not match color, the price of the cabinets that I could find that matched their color choice was 60-80% higher from two competitors product lines. Not to knock another companies product but they were not significantly better than the Prestige cabinets. I have attended trade shows with the intent of adding additional cabinets lines and because of the value (bang for the buck) of Presige they remain my preferred cabinet for my satisfied premium customers.

I worked for prestige cabinets from 9/01 to 5/05 in the door sanding, and the door building department, I no longer work with this company, but I now sell prestige cabinets for another dealer. That being said, DO NOT BUY PRESTIGE FOR QUALITY, thats what there marketed for, but they no longer give what was put out.

The first 3 years I worked there, the qualitiy was amazing then this holding company from california bought us out, and passed down the memo that they wanted more cabinets per day put out, with less workers, the company went down hill from there.

In summory prestige used to be fantasic, now i'd go with custom cubards another kansas factory hope this helps someone

Prestige Cabinet Manufacturers was purchased by RSI. Since the time this review was written, they have built new facilities and made many improvements to their operation. My clients orders have been coming in perfectly. Give them credit for correcting their mistakes.
