HomeDepot.com Complaint - DO NOT ORDER APPLIANCES FROM HOMEDEPOT.COM
I went to a Home Depot to look at the freezers, but our local Home Depot had no freezers and they said I should buy one on-line. Stupid me. That is what I did. When I received the product I knew within two hours the unit was defective. The side of the freezer was burning hot.....enough to burn your arm upon contact. I called Home Depot and they said I had to talk to GE -- evidentially Home Depot.com only sells and takes your money, but does not stand behind anything it sells. So I called GE. They said I hadn't given it enough time and to wait 48 hr. This unit ran endlessly, staying hot, eating tons of energy as it kept my electric meter spinning, but not getting down to zero degrees inside the unit. After two days it still had not gotten to zero, and the compressor hadn't quit running. It took almost 3 days to freeze a loaf of bread......your meat would truly spoil before anything would freeze with this defective unit.
After 48 hrs. I called Home Depot back-- they said "don't call us, call GE". So I called GE again, and they wouldn't hear of it being defective on my word, so they scheduled a service call a week later.(4 days to deliver a defective unit, 2 days to wait before I could complain, now another 6 days to confirm)
The service repairman said the same thing I had been saying.....the Compressor and Drier needs to be replaced. I told him it is a brand new unit, I don't want it repaired -- I want a NEW NON-defective unit. He couldn't do anything.....so I called Home Depot to get my same answer --- "we don't stand behind anything once the sale has been made when it is an applicance. Call GE."
I called GE -- they said it is a man made item and there will be defects. So I don't get a new unit --- I have to keep this defective piece of crap and schedule someone to come out another 11 days from now to put in the new compressor and drier. I wonder how many more things will go wrong with this thing --- or even how long the piece of inferior made metal box will last. I do know that it makes your food all icy as it is freezing -- so don't put frozen vegetbales or anything that you don't want all caked with ice in it. If you have children -- do not let them near the unit as it will burn their skin with the heat radiating from the side of the unit.
If you are smart DO NOT buy ANY appliances from HomeDepot.com. If they don't have it in a store that you can return the defective goods to, then go to LOWES or SEARS or someplace you can see the units and someplace that will STAND BEHIND the units or the merchandise they sell, just in case they deliver you a defective unit.
I sure wish I had NOT let them take my old freezer as it still worked (100 times better than this new $800 defective piece of trash). This has been a bitter and very expensive lesson learned.
