Ashley Furniture Complaint - Too Expensive and Conflicting Stories
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS -- We found some really nice bedroom furniture at Ashley for $3000. We had planned to buy it later when we had more cash. But their salesman talked us into a layaway program where we could make payments for several months and then pay it off.
At that time he told us the furniture would not be built until we paid it off, so there would be a delay in delivery after the last payment.
2 months later we changed our minds and asked them to cancel the order. I expected some kind of charge, but they had a 30% cancellation fee! I asked the manager why, and he said they had been holding the furniture in the warehouse.
The same furniture that they said wouldn't be manufactured till we paid for it?
I don't mind paying a cancellation fee, but 30% is exhorbitant. They had use of my money for 2 months and didn't do much of anything except track paperwork in the computer.
As a final straw, the clerk was going to give us a receipt that was unsigned by them. We refused to accept it and waited while they paged the manager to come and approve it.
Then it has to go to "corporate" to have a credit applied to our credit card. Apparently the local stores can charge things to your credit card all day, but can't process a credit.
My opinion is that the furniture's too expensive, the corporate policies are not customer-oriented, and there's no customer service there. Our salesman was very helpful, but had no real power, of course.
