Cadillac Motors Informative - Cadillac DTS problem - Cadillac 2006 DTS

Cadillac 2006 DTS
Review by flipper on 2006-09-02
VENICE, FLORIDA -- In April, at 2700 miles and 5 1/2 months old, the battery had to be replaced. On Aug. 29 the battery had to be replaced AGAIN. Took the car to Crest on Aug. 30. Kept it overnight to run tests. Told all tests were good. Our problem is we only take short trips and that is running down the battery. This is a very unacceptable answer. Previous car, 2000 Deville, never had any problems with battery, and our driving habits were the same. What are we supposed to do, drive around for hours just to recharge the batter? That is very stupid.

There are other problems with this car: squealing brakes (told moisture drips on brakes overnight and causes rust---overnight?). Also gas cap locks up.

Very unhappy with this car. bought new car just because other car was 5 years old, and wanted to make sure we had a safe, trouble free car. Have had more problems with this car in 10 months, than in the entire 5 years with the old car

Have you looked into seeing if the Lemon Law applies to this vehicle. It sounds like a bad car all around. Good luck!

Flipper, I'm a far stretch from an auto mechanic but years ago I had a similar problem with a car as far as the trouble you mentioned about the battery.

With a new car after heaven knows how many replaced batteries, looking around in parking lots for someone with jumper cables, having the car in the shop with no one being able to diagnose the problem someone finally determined the trunk light never went out which caused the around the clock drain on the battery.

With a brand new car you shouldn't have to instruct someone to unscrew a light in the trunk, which I finally did, just to put an end to the being stranded wherever.

Spiderman2 might very well have a point about the Lemon Law, or you may receive a recall notice in the future when enough complaints come in from others with the same problems.

It certainly takes the enjoyment out of a new car. I know, been there done that.

BTW Flipper, it just happened to be a Cadillac at the time and I've kept a set of jumper cables in the trunk of every car I've owned since.

Our warrenty should cover batteries for the next two years. But that is not the idea--it is the hassle of having to wait for road service and being late for where ever we are going. I am going to keep at GM until they resolve this.

Flipper, I fully understand where you are coming from. I didn't have to pay for the replacement batteries or return trips to the dealership either, all under warranty. It just got to the point with me I didn't want to leave the house in the car, not knowing where I would end up stranded.

Hopefully, you can get some resolution soon. Keep us informed.

Shannon Van Horn of The Cadillac Consumer Support Team called me today. She said there is nothing that can be done with our car except to get another opinion. (That means driving to Ft. Myers, 50 miles away.) She said the car is designed to be driven at least once a week. I explained to her we drive at least twice a week. She said the brake problem is that we live in FL. I told her we do not live anywhere near water, and there are times during the winter when everything dries us because there is no moisture but the brakes still squeal. I also told her I would hate to have to buy a foreign car just because we don't drive a lot. She said the salesman should have told us the car had to be driven a lot, but after all, all he wants to do is sell cars. He knew how little we drive by the milage on our 5 year old trade in. I told her I will let everyone I know about the stupidity of the Cadillac DTS. Her answer was that she will have to mark our file "Unsatisfied". That is putting it mildly!

I have read that if the doors are not locked a lot of the cars electronics remain active which will run the battery down. when you park the car make sure the doors are locked.
