Broomin Sisters Complaint - Unprofessional Conduct

Review by saintbernardpup on 2006-09-07
PALO, IOWA -- I am getting married in October and was hoping to use the floral services of this small flower shop. When my fiance and I first met with the owner of Palo based Broomin Sisters she seemed to understand what we wanted for our wedding and seemed enthusiastic to work with us. We scheduled a time to meet with her at the wedding location to hammer down specific details about what we wanted to orer. She stood us up. For the next week my fiance and I both attempted to get a hold of her to see where things stood with the wedding flowers. After days of unreturned calls, I eventually emailed the Broomin Sisters shop and expressed concern that I was nervous with where we stood in terms fo flowers. I got a cold email back from the Broomin Sisters owner stating that she has done tons of weddings and has never worked with a nervous bride before, and this is a risk that she doesn't want to take. Basically, she dropped me as a customer because I was concerned that she had stood up an important meeting and failed to follow up with us after that? I find her to be rude, self-centered and unconcerned with her customers. This is not the way to make a small business grow.
The new florist that we found after this incident said that she had heard other stories about this business, so if you chose to work with them, which I wouldn't suggest, you may want to have a backup florist in case you are dropped, too...

What kind of response is that Mr. pirate?

What bride ISN'T nervous? Sheeesh..after standing you up, I would have went somewhere else, immediately. Or, at least, had some back-up ideas. It is your wedding, after all. On a side note, did you actually shop around for flowers? What is it that made you choose this floral shop in the first place?

Fortunate you could find a replacement florist you felt comfortable with. Several months sounds like ample time, but good florists, caterers, photographers and the like book up months in advance.

Any florist who tells a customer she has never worked with a nervous bride before is full of BS. It sounds like Broomin Sisters booked more than they could handle for that weekend and had to drop someone. Not a very professional way to run a business and it's a shame it happened to you, but it's probably a blessing in disguise.

Good luck to you and congratulations!

On another note, did this particular florist consider herself a "floral designer" and was insulted as to why you DARED question her capability? Nontheless, it was your wedding and your money and she should have never scheduled a time with you and been a no show. Good that she's gone.

SB Pup: It probably was a blessing in disguise. For an owner of a flower shop to state that she never worked with a nervous bride, displays either a lack of experience, or just plain stupidity. Anyway...Lots of luck and have a happy life!

Be glad you found out her attitude before your wedding day. I have never run across a bride that wasn't nervous, it goes with the territory. Have a long and happy marriage.

Well good thing you found out earlier rather than later! It could have been a disaster.

If they've worked tons of weddings, How can she say she has never worked with a nervous bride before? Very unprofessional, if she was even going to drop you, she should have had the decentcy to call you and let you know she would not be doing the work...did you have a signed contract with her? I guess the thing to be thankful for is that you found out when you did and have the time to find someone else. Congrates on your upcoming wedding, may you both be blessed!

P.S...I love going "Broomin" during a full moon with the wind whipping through my hair!

Yeah, "Broomin" has so many meanings, tho'. The wind whipping through your hair cannot be misunderstood.

Good things happen some time and I think you had a good thing happen when they dropped you. It could have been a bad thing if it was on the one day you want to remember. Have a happy life and a long marriage, God Bless
