Home Depot Complaint - FIRED for "JOB Abandonment"
FREDERICTON NB CAN, NORTH CAROLINA -- I'm an 18 year old male in NB CANADA who has worked with the City of XXXX for a number of years. When the Home Depot came to town in June I was hired on as a casual. HD knew that I was working ful time at a primary job and stated that they would work around those hours until I went back to school in the fall.
For the first part of the summer JUL and 1/2 AUG I worked throughout the week and had weekends off with the city. Every time HD called for me to work I had to explain to them that I was unavailable AGAIN . Whenever I called to see if I was on the weekend schedule - NO ONE was able to give me a straight answer about the schedule.
I even get hollered at by my father when he gets a call from CHAD stating that I'm not at work. Unfortunately I was out in the lot pushing carts and the pa system is not installed there so the page inside is useless for me to answer because I can't hear it.
MiD AUG shifts with city changes to weekends and off Mondays and Tuesdays. I tell my supervisor at HD and his supervisor and the HR department. Then I find out I'm on the schedule for - the 2 weekend days. But somehow its my fault right!!!???
Doesn't ANYONE listen to a teenager. so on a Saturday when my father is home he receives a call from HD scheduling master Erica and she's ooking for me. Well my father - being a cop - looses it. He goes on to explain to her that HD has yanked me around since hiring and despite their being told I am working X to Z for the city and person 1 and 2 have been informed at HD of the situation - no one has taken correct management actions on the information. She states to him that she has not been made aware of these facts but to have me report to her in the new week to set out a written schedule. This I did and was placed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
This week I got a registered letter from HD stating termination due to "Job abandonment" for not showing up on schedules slated for Wednesday and Thursday. HD please get your stuff together. This city is a small community and you will get nothing but sad reviews spreading like wildfire. When my dad called the GM for the store and told him that he spoke to Erica himself about the poor scheduling and planning the store has, the GM shut down and refused to talk to him. Basically the GM had to do my job on the last Friday night when I wasn't even scheduled. Amazing isn't it. 4 years with the city and never missed a shift. New Job at HD and I've missed about 10 - come onlets get real and admit the department doesn't talk to scheduling and its not the employees fault. Or how about scheduling a shift and then when I get there cancelling it.
