Symantec Complaint - Rude and Unhelpful
I had a problem with a virus preventing me from getting past my opening page except in the Safe Mode". I have a current version of Symantec Nortons Anti-Virus that came with my new HP computer.
I called Symantec using the number provided by HP. After going through the typical phone menu I finally got Bombay (I think). The woman could not speak english very well (kind of par for todays help lines). I explained my problem. She told me that I probably have a virus that is preventing Norton's Anti-Virus from working and that the problem will only get worse. She told me that for $39.95 they would walk me through clearing out the virus. I then asked her wasn't that the reason I have Norton Anti-Virus? She said yes, but a virus was preventing it from performing. I have already paid to prevent viruses with their software, why would I have to pay again? She repeated the $39.95 price. I asked again why do I need to pay if their software is not working and is a current subscription. She ask me am I going to pay? and then hung up. I then went to Walmarts and for $19.95 purchased "Defender Pro 5-in-1". After taking about 10 minutes to install this my problems were solved. The software also came up with 16 Viruses and Trojans that Norton never found. I have now removed Norton from my computer altogether and will reccommend that others do the same. Defender Pro is much more user friendly and I believe more useful.
