Home Depot Complaint - Check declined for no valid reason
SPOKANE VALLEY, WASHINGTON -- If it wasn't bad enought that I drove 100 miles to a store, fought with the crowds to find my items, stood in a long line, my check was declined. Why? I had more than enough money- because according to Certegy Group, Home Depot's check acceptance group, because I fit a profile of an identity thief. Yep, my profile is that of identity thief. FYI- shopping at Home Depot on a Saturday and attempting to purchase $150 worth of BUILDING SUPPLIES makes you fit the profile of an identity thief. Now when I went to customer service and insisted upon speaking with a manager they played the wait them out game. They waited 15 minutes before a manager showed up. When I asked for clarification about this policy- it was a corporate decision and the managers (by this time there are 3 of them) could not over ride "the system". But the Assistant Manager gave me his card and ASSURED me he would find out what he could about this situation. His name is Terry Stroud and he is with the Spokane Valley, WA store. He was supposed to call me back on September 11, 2006. To Date- October 3, 2006, nearly a month later no call. Bottom line- when we remodel we will not shop at a store that uses Certegy Group for check acceptance even if it means paying more, and we will not shop at Home Depot. I am also telling all my friends and relatives who would normally purchase gift cards from Home Depot for my husband and myself that we prefer cash from now on. Say NO to Home Depot!
