Comcast Corporation Complaint - They won't even let me BECOME a disgruntled customer. False advertising??
MAPLE FALLS, WASHINGTON -- On September 21st 2006 I decided to order cable internet through Earthlink.net. EarthLink’s site said that cable was available to me as did Comcast’s website as well as Best Buy’s computer search in their store, so I figured it would not be a problem getting cable internet. I got onto EarthLink’s customer service chat on Sept. 21st and asked the customer service tech if cable internet was available to me. He confirmed my address and said that yes, cable internet was available to me and that there was a promotion for cable internet with free installation and the price would be $29.99 for 6 months then $45.95 per month after that. All installation and equipment (including cable modem) was free. I informed the customer service tech that there were no cable lines running to my house and asked him if there would be an additional charge for installation. One more time he assured me that the installation would be free. So, I ordered the cable internet service. About a week later my husband received a call from Comcast setting up a date and time for cable installation. We then bought $160 worth of networking equipment for our home computers. We also dug a trench from our power pole to our house.
On Oct. 4th at 9:30 am the Comcast technician came out to install our cable internet service. He drove up and down our road and could not find a “Tap” near our house. He called his boss who said that cable ended half a mile down our road and we were only serviceable if we could get 8 more people to want cable down our road. There aren't 8 more people within a 10 mile radius...plus I don't really know any of my neighbors.
I then called EarthLink and was transferred from dept. to dept. for about 2 hours until I talked to someone about a breach of contract. I told EarthLink that it was their responsibility to get our cable installed. EarthLink kept telling me that Comcast was in charge of that. I told EarthLink that I had a contract with THEM (written and printed out in chat) and that THEY needed to talk to Comcast about installing our cable, it’s their responsibility, not mine and I spent a lot of money getting ready for cable and my family is extremely disappointed. They gave me 2 months of free dialup.
No one (neither EarthLink nor Comcast) could tell me why 6 different websites online said that my street address was serviceable for cable when in fact it was not. Is this false advertising? Are they sucking people in but unable to deliver?
I've complained to the BBB and my local attorney general's office. Other then that, I have no idea what to do. They pretty much refuse to run the line 1/2 mile more down the road. Unfortunately there is no dsl available to me either. Thank God for my dishnetwork.
Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, Mast
