Enterprise Rent-A-Car Complaint - Scratches I did not cause
SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA -- I took my car to a repair shop for hail damage repair. The autobody shop offered me a free loaner car at the Enterprise next door. Enterprise actually shares a office the this building with the auto body shop. I walked over to Enterprise. They explained I would be getting a compact. I decided to pay the extra to upgrade. I was first given a beat up Chevy Malibu. The Malibu had a dent in one door and damage on the front bumper. The agent was impatient and brought the car out wet but still dirty as if it was just rinsed with water. I he walked around the car but did not point out any damage. I asked him about the damage and he said he would note that. I pointed out scratches and scuffs on the car also. He said they were not a big deal because they had to be a certain size. I pointed out one that was big. He brushed it off at if it was not major enough. I drove off but not the car smelled of alcohol and was quite filthy inside just vaccumed. I decided I did not want this car and returned it within minutes of driving off. I came back and decided I would take a compact if that's all they had. I checked out one without the agent he just seemed to be preoccupied with paperwork inside the office. He did not come out with me as I checked the car over. This car was nicer at least it did not have dents and it was clean. I did notice scratches and the drivers seat had damage. I told him I didn not want it. I noticed two more cars being returned. I saw a Pontiac Grand Prix. The agent was busy and the driver had to sit and wait a few minutes. He returned and took the keys to get the mileage. I did not see him do a walk around to check the car over. The car was dirty but he said he would wash it and be right back. He came back almost as fast as he left. The car was wet and still looked dirty as if it was only rinsed with water. We did a check of the car. Again, the agent did not point out anything. I pointed out scratches and marks. He briefly looked and again said they were not major. He was impatient and rushing and changed the information on the previous contract to change the car. I signed the contract with the assumption that this is there normal practice to rent cars with previous damage. I drove off. I was expecting my car to be done in 3-5 days. It took 9 day. I did not wash the car until the day I returned it because I did not know when my car was going to be finished. Besides it was raining off and on. I returned the car clean and dry. I gave the keys to the agent. He looked over the car and told me that the scratches on the bumper needed to be painted and they would contact my insurance company. I did not create the scratches and explained this to the agent. This was not the same agent to rented the car out to me. He explained that they do not normally rent cars with scratches and that their were not notes of previous scratches on the contract. I recieved a letter from Enterprise notifying me of an investigation. Also asking me how I intended to pay for the damage. I am disgusted and plan to fight this. I can take responsibility if I caused the scratches but I did not. I will never rent a car through enterprise or any other rental car company without making sure they note on the contract of previous damage and take pictures also. People beware of this kind of thing.
