Avis Complaint - Reservations? Avis doesn't use reservations
PLAYA DEL CARMEN -- We recently took a cruise to Calica in Mexico with a few hundred friends, many of whom decided to rent jeeps to drive down to the Tulum ruins.
On October 2nd we reserved our jeep through Avis for October 17th. Avis listed no problem with renting a jeep from this location and it is where most of our group was getting their vehicles.
When we arrived at 8am local time to pick up our jeeps we discovered that Avis doesn't honor reservations. Nor do they prepare vehicles or plan for how many vehicles have been reserved.
At 10:30am local time I finally got the last vehicle the had available for rent, a VW four door mini-compact. By this time 4 of our drivers had departed and 3 more who had waited were unable to get vehicles at all. Meanwhile the non-drivers were still at the port waiting to be picked up to go to Tulum.
A phone call complaint to Avis resulted in a "we'll credit you back your gas charge and give you $5 off a future rental".
Overall very poor customer service from Avis with absolutely no attempt to prepare for a large group renting vehicles, even though th reservation were made well in advance.
I would never recomment anyone use this company unless you can just walk up and out with a vehicle as they are not interested in reliable service to their customers.
