Home Depot Complaint - NON-EXISTENT SERVICE
CANOGA PARK, CALIFORNIA -- Our nightmare has been going on since July 15, 06, when we paid in full for new kitchen countertops (Silestone)...over $4200. There were a number of foul-ups before things ever really got started, and they finally came to install the tops on August 31. The installers spoke little to no English, and were 5 hours late showing up. After installing "part" of the job, we discovered the tops were marred and broken in several places. This led to weeks of haggling with the installers over getting them replaced (they wanted to "fill them in" with Epoxy!!!). They came out repeated times to "look at them". They never drilled the holes under the counter correctly for the faucet, and twice sent out people who "didn't bring the right tools". The installers were rude when you could understand them, and they spoke their native tongue while working, so you didn't know if they were talking about you or saying that they didn't know what they were doing (which they didn't). At last they were to replace the two main pieces last Friday, Oct. 20, but guess what...they had to tear out the backsplashes, which they did not make new ones of, and when they did that, they totally ripped out big hunks of drywall and punched a hole in our wall. In the meantime, they set up the new counters. only to advise me that there was a broken place in the new one, too, and could they just go ahead and install that? I told them NO, to take it away. They then tried to refuse to leave the old countertops here so I could have some semblance of a kitchen. The lead installer looks me in the eye and says, "I take countertops away; YOU go buy tarps." I got thru to their supervisor and he made them leave the tops here. The backsplashes are slung out on our back patio. We went there over the weekend and told them this is over--we are not letting them back into our house--and we want our money back. The managers at HD are still trying to talk us back into it, telling us we can't get a refund till the stone place gets the material back. We told them to come & get it, but they can't "seem" to find a time to do so. We have already contacted Master Card, and they are working on this for us, too, and the next step will be small claims court.
I implore you, don't buy anything bigger than a screwdriver at HD!!!! This is an EXTREMELY abbreviated version of what has transpired--it would take too much time and space to write out everything. NO ONE at HD, and certainly no one at the stone place, wants to help us. They hope we'll just shut up and accept it, but believe me, we won't. I will follow up when it is all done.
