Kmart Informative - Cashier Lines
TUSCALOOSA, ALABAMA -- Today I was in line at the Kmart checkout. I was 5th person in line. There was only one cashier line open.
Within 5 minutes there were at least 11 more waiting to check out. And of course at Kmart, we never (except for me) shop alone, right? So eleven more people in line to checkout...was actually about 20 in the line.
I began looking around for signs to see if there was a toll free number...and there was! I called it while I was IN line. By the time I actually got to the ONLY cashier (line growing!!) I finally heard a human on the line asking how they could help me.
I explained that since I had waited on hold for that person, that they should wait for me while I checked out. (The people in line behind me were reaaaaally entertained by all this!) As I left the store, I tried to find someone at the customer service desk with a name tag, something to give this CSR on the phone. Guess what? NO one at the Customer Service Cash desk either! Can't blame them, probably hiding fromt the impending angry onslaught!
Btw, I told the cashier, also, that I felt sorry that things were looking so tough for him right then,...he said..."no problem...it's my last day!"
I spoke with a sympathetic person in the "Sears Holdings" Customer Service. I believe he typed in every word I said. While on the phone with him I even warned a customer in the parking lot that there was only one cashier on duty inside....long line...etc.
While the CSR was sympathetic and offered apologies, I have to say: the growing line, ONE single cashier line @ 3 p.m. on a Saturday? I thought they WANTED to remain open! I spent years and years in retailing. I know customer patterns and how to staff for sales gains. These people are so far off the mark, they may as well lock the doors and declare themselves closed and failed for lack of trying!
I will either go to Kmart EVERY DAY...and call customer service every day to complain, or I will never darken the door again.
This is not an isolated case. There are 2 Kmarts in my small town. It's the same at both. Weekdays weekends...it's the same. Today was just the last straw ~
I appreciate a place to post the rant!
If a company has a store open to "serve the public", then they should contribute, and fully staff the business. These people weren't at half staff....they were NOT staffed.
