Performance Volkswagon Complaint - No Integrity in Sales

Review by TexasPilot on 2006-11-06
OMAHA, NEBRASKA -- I am writing this review to warn others considering Performance Volkswagen for both new and/or used autos. I was considering purchase of a Used Volkswagen Jetta from them. I had negotiated a price for the vehicle (or so I thought) a week before making a 5 hour trip to purchase the car. I verified with the saleswoman twice before visiting the dealership that the car would be able to be purchased at the negotiated price. The saleswoman said she verified with the sales-manager and that this was a 'doable' action.
I traveled the distance, met with the salespeople and then test drove the car. After going to a few other dealerships to look at other cars, I was ready to make a decision. Upon calling the dealership back they told me that they couldn't go down to the agreed price because they "didn't" realize that the price already listed on the internet was their lowest price. The sales people 'hemmed' and 'hawed' and then even later acted like they "COULD" come down. After about 4 or 5 calls within an hour, the sales-manager on staff calls and acts like the deal is going through. After saying that I was just paying cash , and I was ready to get the car at the previously agreed price, he said they could not come down to that price. I would think that since they had a week and a half to come clean with the price (BEFORE I drove the distance) they would.
In my opinion and according to my experience. This dealership has no integrity and they want to play games. The Carfax report showed that this car was purchased at auction and was prior a fleet vehicle. [When the sales manager told me he would be losing money on the car by coming down to the previously agreed upon price, I believe he was lying right through their teeth.]

Why were you buying from a dealer so far away? Do you live in the middle of the desert?

You broke rule # 1, NEVER, EVER try to buy a car over the phone!!! FYI, it is my experience that the internet pricing dealers are using is at or damn close to their bottom line.

You should have bought a Volkswagen instead of the crappy imitation Volkswagon.

I have leased two volkswagens and purchased two volkswagens from this dealership with zero problems. The haggling over the price was very easy as we went in prepared. Got all 4 vehicles below dealer invoice.
You can't really fault the dealership as any dealership would have done this over the phone
