Ford Motor Complaint - Faulty transmission in 1999 Ford Windstar LX
SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS -- We bought our 1999 Ford Windstar in July 2000. It was a slightly used vehicle. We immediately noticed that it was very clunky when it shifted. It was still under warranty so we took it to our local Ford dealership for service. They changed the transmission fluid/filter and sent us on our way. In July 2001, on three occasions, the transmission slipped out of gear. I took it to our local Ford dealor and they could not replicate the problem, charged us $60 to look at it, and again sent us on our way. Now, January 2002, my transmission is gone and will need to be rebuilt or replaced. Again, this is a 1999 vehicle with under 60,000 miles on it. I am appalled and surprised at this development. I thought I was buying a sturdy and dependable vehicle. We bought based on the safety rating the Windstar had. What happened to the quality of its engines? I am soured on the Ford name and will not purchase another vehicle based on this experience. Currently, my faith in Ford has been destroyed. I don't even want this vehicle back now because I view it as a second rate car that may or may not run for me. I cannot take that risk with two small children in the car with me.
Another problem we experienced, the paint on the top of the vehicle was peeling off. This was repaired and was covered under warranty. However, it is just one more problem we did not anticipate when we bought a Ford.
To help keep me as a potential future customer, I would like the following:
I want Ford to take responsibility for this faulty transmission and pay for the repair and/or replacement. We have been quoted $2800 to replace the transmission. I realize that I am the second owner of this vehicle and it is not under warranty, but I am sure you build your vehicles to be more dependable than this car has been for us. Also, why couldn't the technicians detect this was coming?
I would like a response from your company regarding this incident. Thank you for your time.
