Cox Communications Inc Informative - Consumer runaround with fraudulent charges
PHOENIX, ARIZONA -- My problems with Cox Communications started on Aug 15,2006 when I thought I would be saving money bundling my services with Cox. Per the advertisement, Phone,Internet, and cable would cost just $99 per month. So I ordered all three. Cable and internet was to be installed on Aug 17 and telephone on Aug 18. My previous phone was with Qwest, which Cox was to port the number from Qwest. Aug 18 I called Qwest to see if the number had been ported over yet it had not. I called Cox, who informed me that it takes 5-7 business days for phone service that I should have service on the 23rd. My phone had always worked fine in the past with Qwest. However on the 23rd of Aug my phone was not receiving calls. On Aug 24 I spoke with Kara from Cox who told me they connected service on the 23rd. When I asked her if the number was ported properly from Qwest, she told me there were no notes written regarding the port. Later on that day I spoke with Hillary from Cox. I informed her of the problem and she said it would be fixed by 7:00 pm the next day. On the 26th my phone still was not working I called Qwest to see if there was an order from Cox to disconnect service. Per Christopher at Qwest my service was active and there was no pending orders to disconnect. Also on the 26th I spoke to Niki from Cox, who informed me that the port was not complete and will call me back when completed. At that time I let Niki know that I had spoke to Qwest and there was no pending order to port the number. I never heard back from Niki.
To make a long story short, this went on for the remainder of the month. In the meantime I had recieved my bill from Cox for the Internet and TV only a week after installation, the bill was due by Sept 11. Finaly, on Aug 29, I was transfered to Cox's Expeditious dept where I spoke with someone named Akay, who assured me that the problem would be fixed for sure. He would call me back when it was fixed. Of course I never heard from him. Because I was not recieving incoming calls, I called Qwest, who claimed that my service was active with them. So Qwest comes out and disconnect the line from Cox and puts it back on their line. What a mess this is!!!! I didn't even want to deal with it anymore. On Sept 11, after paying my Cox bill online, I get a message there was still $17.98 balance. I call Cox, Oh, its for your phone service. I explained to Jamah the problems I had been having getting my phone service. At that time Jamah informed me that my phone number xxx-xxx-xxxx was now working. My mouth went open and I gasped. The phone number he had mentioned wasn't even my phone number. Apparently what they did to Cover their A** was to change the phone number without my permission and then charge me for that service. I called the number and it rings somewhere in space. Anyway, a few weeks later, I get another bill for $188, I just about hit the ceiling. I looked through the bill and of course they were trying to charge me over $80 for phone service I didn't have with them. I immediately called and the person I spoke with made adjustments to my bill and told me to pay only $72.xx so I did. Unfortunately a couple weeks later I get a bill with a past due amount of $74.xx along with current charges that says pay immediately. So once again I call, and argued for almost two hours with the rep that I didn't owe this money. He told me the rep who was suppose to adjust my bill by $80 some dollars was not approved to do so. After argueing my case for two hours I finally got them to drop the charges for service I don't have. After this incident I disconnected all my service with Cox and went back to Qwest and returned the cable box I had rented back to Cox. But it was not over yet. I recieved another bill saying that I owed $300 and some dollars. I gave it time because they didn't show the credit for the returned box. Today I called Cox to make sure there wasn't anything I owed. I should have figured, they are saying that I still owe $64 for past due charges, I have paid all my bills ( I only had service,(internet and Tv) from Aug 17 through Oct 19)thats a total of 2 months. The two months I had cable and internet I paid for on time. I'm not about to pay for Phone service I never had with Cox. At this point the rep filled out an action form to dispute the charges. Most likely this will have to be sent to the Corporation Commision. There was a lot of fraudulent activity going on. From what I have read from other consumers, Cox should not be in business. They do not care about the consumer. I was told by one rep that even though I signed up for the bundled discount, they were raising the prices the next month. What Cox does is false advertising to reel in the consumer, but once your in they raise the prices after a month. Someone has got to stop them.
