Circuit City Complaint - Dishonest customer service.
LYNNWOOD -- A few years back, my mom wanted to buy a new computer. She's not even remotely tech-saavy so she asked me to help her out. So I took a day out of my busy schedule to look at computers.
One of the stores I stopped at was the Circuit City in Lynnwood, WA. While there, I saw a very inexpensive machine (on sale for $300) that was perfect for what she wanted. All she wanted was a machine that would let her do email, surf the web, write word docs, etc. Nothing fancy so a cheap machine would be fine (especially since she has limited income).
In retrospect, I should have bought the machine and just had her pay me back, but I wanted to be sure this computer would suit her needs. I tried to call her but she was not available so I left a message explaining about the computer. I then grabbed a nearby salesman, pointed to the machine in question and asked him how long the $300 sales price was good for. He responded "Til the end of the week." It was a Monday, so I figured we were fine. I wrote down all the details of the computer, brand, model #, specifications, etc., and left the store.
I came back with my mom on Wednesday of that week, just 2 days later. To my surprise, the sales price was gone and the machine was now priced at $400. I talked to a salesman and asked about the earlier $300 price. He said, "That machine was never on sale." I called over a manager who said the same thing. I argued with him and he refused to budge so I told him that Circuit City had lost a customer for life.
We left the store and my mom purchased a machine at another store that she's very happy with. Since that time, Circuit City has never received another dime of my business, and I used to spend quite a bit of money on gadgets there.
I don't know if the original sales price was a mistake or what, but regardless, the fact that they outright lied to me is really unacceptable.
