Amana Complaint - Poor Quality - Amana Range ACS7270AS

Amana Range ACS7270AS - Complaint
Review by labtech on 2006-11-28
DETROIT, MICHIGAN -- Control module needs to be replaced every 9-12 months at a cost of over $200 per repair. Amana knows of this problem but refuses to do anything about it since they make more money selling parts and service after the sale and no longer care about their image or name since they have a monopoly on the appliance business now. Please read reviews on this model before purchasing and you will see that it is a major issue and should have a national recall on it.

It's a shame that this once fine company (Did you know that Amana developed the first commercial microwave oven?) has now become a third rate manufacturer of sub-standard and unreliable kitchen products. While growing up in the '80s, we had a Amana refrigerator, an Amana gas oven, and an Amana microwave oven in our kitchen. Today, I wouldn't put an Amana product in my kitchen if you paid me!

Yep, the Radar Range was that microwave Amana made first. A $700, 400watt, bulky, uneven cooking thing, but the one that started it all for residential use.

Yep, we had a hard time keeping them in stock, back in the day. Museum pieces now.

I made the dreaded mistake of buying an Amana range, frig, microwave, and dishwasher at the same time. I am on a first name basis now with the repairman, I think he has me on speed dial now so whenever he sees my phone number on his caller ID he throws a control module in his bag and comes right over.

Lol, yep, we had a few customers like that. They don't make 'em like they used to, and maybe that's a good thing.

Labtech, how old is your Amana? If it is outside the warranty dates then yes you are responsible for the charges. The warranty on most products is 12 months labor and 12-24 months parts. However even when those parts are replaced the warranty on those parts is only 90 days.

I bought it in June of 2004, it's already on it's 3rd module and the module is only a 12 month warranty. I read online that a class action lawsuit is in progress regarding this issue. They state that a faulty latch mechanism allows the heat escape from the door burning up the module. After seeing the design I can see why this happens, steam can be seen coming out the door right by it.
