Norton (Symantec) Security Suite 2007 Complaint - It Doesn't Work!!! (norton)

Review by CJSim on 2006-12-01
CHICHESTER -- I have been using the McAfee internet security for three years and have never had any problems, however the other day i swicth to Norton because i am told it's better and i fell for it! I ahd to wait up to 5 hours for Norton Internet Security Suite 2007 to install and do a "quick" scan which was the slowest ever; comapred to McAfee which took me about 5 minutes to install and half and hour for a full computer scan! Norotn always says that your computer is not safe and needs updates. when it searches for these updates they do not exhist! so whats the point? and the 5 hours that i had the Norton it let in 6 viruses and 2 hackers that i had to get rid of manually. this just proves that the Norton "security" is crap! DO NOT GET IT! TRUST McAFEE!
plus recently i have been doing a survey for the best internet security; the results are:
McAfee: 60
Norton: 15
AVG: 10
Thank - you all for your replys so far, they have been useful into my quires, however the situation hasn't changed. I am back with McAfee and no more problems. any more quires or suggestions for me then please comment back, thanks. please continue to reply and say on it whether you prefer either of the three above (or if another please specify)

I've been running Norton for a few years now with no problems. The fullscan is a bit slow, but I always thought that was just how it was suppose to work. I think they are both decent products.

Did you completely remove McAfee? There might be a conflict going on. Just using Uninstall on McAfee apparently isn't enough anymore. Using this link: http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe
Install the file and run it. It will remove all traces of McAfee from your PC.

Sorry I posted before I finished. Disconnect your PC from the Internet and uninstall Norton. Install and run CCleaner for both CLEANER and ISSUES. Let it remove everything it finds. Defrag the hard drive. Restart the PC and reinstall Norton. Let it scan the PC. After that you can reconnect to the internet and hopefully it will get updates.

I use AVG free edition, and, I think it's great!

I second your opinion, emtc. Bought the McAfee software several years ago and after two years when I'd have to start paying for it all over again, I discontinued it. Got AVG free edition, and no problems. However about 18 months ago, Comcast offered it at no cost to subscribers. I installed/uninstalled it about half dozen times, but each time it dragged my computer down to where dial-up would probably have been faster (just a little exaggeration there). Finally gave up on it, re-signed for AVG and it's been working perfectly since then. (Knock wood?)

Everytime I have problems with my computer, the first thing the tech will ask me is if I have any Norton programs installed. I did have the security, and virus protection etc installed...he told me that 90% of the time, that is the problem...he said he saves alot of time by checking for that first before anything else...he had me uninstall the program and I haven't had any trouble with my computer since...so, I stay away from anything that has Norton's name on it.
