Hotels.com/Best Western Complaint - Club member? Is this a joke?
VIRGINIA BEACH, VIRGINIA -- My husband recently booked the Best Western Springfield (VA) through Hotels.com. As a bonus they offered him, for free, to be a "club member" at the hotel. Now, do I understand this is a free service, but, it is still a complete joke. Don't be fooled by this promotion.
Being a "club member" included a free, hot breakfast, 'members only' access to the 5th & 6th floors (and the basement, which had the workout room), and, a 'cocktail hour' on the 6th floor M-Thurs for about 3 hours.
The hotel was clean enough, and the room size was enough for our needs (business trip). The first morning we tried the 'hot' breakfast. Breakfast started at 7 a.m., and we arrived at about 7:45. No coffee. This is a bad thing. The 'club' room is actually a guest room they refitted with 2 tables and a bar. Cold scrambled eggs, hash browns, and sausage were the *stars* to this event. Had to take our food back to our room, sans coffee!
OK, kind of disappointing. Decided to try out the 'cocktail hour'. I guess 2 tiny wings and a bowl of chips is good enough to pass for their 'hot Hors d'oeuvres'. Sad.
Next day, I decided to wander around the lobby. Guess what I found? Their original free continental breakfast room. They had coffee. They had fresh fruit. They had yogurt, cereal, waffle batter(with the irons), oatmeal, fresh fruit, and a variety of juices.
I'm sorry this is so long. I just wanted to warn other travelers that this deal is not what it seems to be. It was actually a pain in the butt. You had to enter the hotel through a different door, use your keycard to get in, use your keycard in the elevator to access the 'special floors', AND, it is so not worth it.
My advice is, even if it's free, it still might not be worth the hassle.
Final note, we were never informed about the (still) free continental breakfast near the lobby. We were just directed to the 'club' room.
