Umax Scanners Informative - Umax Scanner issues/customer service

KAMLOOPS -- About a year ago, I purchased a UMAX scanner. Great product - until it died after only 6 uses. Since I was slightly outside the warranty of 1 year, I bought another one. This one also died after only 10 or so uses. That was really sad. I emailed Umax, explained everything, and they responded with a form letter explaining that I could send them $100 (more than the scanner cost) and ship it to them at my expense, and they would look at it for me. I emailed them back complaining that I didn't think it should be my responsibility, given their poor product. I did not receive a response until I re-emailed them a month later, with a request to speak to his manager. I never got ahold of a manager, and he told me I was SOL basically. I will never buy another Umax product again, and I strongly suggest nobody else does either. Save the trouble and go Hewlett Packard.

Hrm. That's exactly the opposite of the experiences I've had with Umax scanners. Just wondering if it's possible that you're buying from a dealer that's selling refurbished equipment as new?

I agree with the other commenter. I have had a Umax scanner for four years now, and have had no problems with it.
My advice would be to return to the place you purchased the scanner, and try to get them to help you.

I have a umax 2100U scanner and was having problems with it before the 1 year warranty had expired. I notified the company of the problem and they did not offer to repair this or send me a new scanner to replace this defective unit. The customer service with this company is pathetic and terrible. I will not ever purchase another umax scanner. This unit was defective and a good company would back up it's product to ensure that the customer is content with the product.
