LifeLock Informative - Possible scam company - Identity theft service

Identity theft service
Review by tnchuck100 on 2006-12-16
TEMPE, ARIZONA -- LifeLOCK looked like a POSSIBLE benefit. However, they appear to be a SCAM. I sent the following inquiry 4 times. They did not respond to any of them. If they won't answer BEFORE they get your money they probably won't respond afterwards. In thier Terms of Service they indicate in one place you have 30 days to notify them of ID theft. In another place they say you have 15 days. Looks like a perfect setup to deny benifits because "you waited too long."

I am surprised that RipOff Report actually recommends this company. What's up with that?

BE CAREFUL!

Subject: Inquiry/Terms of Service clarification

4th Request - if no response is received within 48 hours it may be listed on RipOffReport.com and My3Cents.com as a probable scam company.

3rd Request - are you people legitimate?

You have 2 different time requiremnts (30 days and 15 days) to be notified of discovering that my identity has been stolen defined in your "Terms of Service". When a conflict in terms is noted, will this be resolved to the benefit of the client or to the benifit LifeLOCK?

I wouldn't touch with a 10-ft. pole anything recommended by ROR!

RipOff Report did not post this. I had a feeling they probably would not. This was thier response:

We are concerned by your comments you submitted to us. We are going to investigate. We know executives at LifeLock will not be happy about this.

Someone will be in contact with you with in 3 to 5 business days.
-------------------
Regardless of anything else, the problem is: You don't get a second chance to make a first impression. But, actually, I gave LifeLock 4 chances.

Chuck I agree with you this looks like a scam to me. Thanks for the heads up

The COO of LifeLock has emailed me. He has indicated they are have a problem with email from hotmail.com and Cox.net being filtered out as spam. He states he is investigating this further. I will keep this post updated.

Never heard another word out of them. They did change the days to nofify them to 30. However, read the terms of service carefully. It loaded with "gotcha's". They may change terms without notification. There is an arbitration clause. The "terms of Service" as of this date looks like it was put together in a hurry by a word processor novice. As I previously stated: BE CAREFUL!

Chuck is all over it again! This is why I just watch my cards myself, and watch my credit reports myself, I don't spend a dime. Free credit reports are available online if you know how to get them. They will charge sometimes a small 5.95 fee for an online report, but it is free if you order it by mail. I do this with the big 3. Equifax, Experian, and Trans Union. DO NOT GO TO freecreditreport.com they want to sign you up to a service. The reports are free then...well guess what, they are free anyway by law! They will tell you it is free only once a year, but that is also NOT true. You can get it by many other means free...I will talk later about that in a review, watch for it soon! (This is done by using a 3rd party to request for your credit report, it's pretty clever...and free!)

Signed my Mom up, low and behold, never got the credit reports but letters from Equifax and Experian saying that I now had to provide them with photocopies of ID's etc. The whole point of contracting lifelock was so I wouldn't have to do the paperwork, now I'm paying them AND DOING THE PAPERWORK? I don't think so. When I asked the supervisor she said 2/3 of all customers have to do this. What? Why is it that I gave them my information and they could not communicate it accurately to the big three? Now it's been over 4 months since I have seen a report and how many more will pass before I do?
Cancelling service here, forget these people, you are better off requesting it by mail yourself every 4 months.

What Lifelock does is send a letter requesting a copy of your annual free report be sent direct to you. The credit reporting agencies HATE companies like Lifelock, or any other third party agency that provide a service in helping you manage your credit.

Even when I request my CRA's directly, they still refuse to send them.

I have been a victim of ID theft and let me tell you, any ID Theft insurance is a good thing. I spent my entire life savings fighting my battle and I am still denied everything from a student loan to attend graduate school, car loan, housing, and even denied medical coverage based on false and misleading information the credit bureaus refuse to acknowlege.

Yes, I have an attorney and I am really looking to find a company or organization to bring my experience to professionally and work as a consumer advocate.

Even with letters, recorded calls from original creditors with control numbers showing where they requested the credit reporting agencies to correct their files, they still won't do it with no explanation.

The sad reality is, if you don't have the money for retainers, you kiss your rights away. Better to have insurance to see it through to the end and not be screwed around for 10 years like I was.
