Bet Buy Complaint - Best Buy Billing Practices
HOUSTON, TEXAS -- We've purchased close to $10k worth of stuff from Best Buy in the last couple years. We've always been very happy with their stuff, service, etc., but recently less so with their billing folk. We bought a plasma or something with a promotional 0% for 18 months (or something) deal. Paid regularly, timely, electronically. Decided to pay off the balance last month, checked the website for account payoff info, scheduled the e-payoff, which took place as scheduled, and then was surprised to receive on 12/20 a new bill, dated 12/12 - the DAY BEFORE may e-payoff posted, ostensibly charging me for the accumulated interest. The customer service people were unapologetic, unaccommodating, unhelpful, and generally un-anything-fun-or-useful. It was quite clear they were thrilled to have an unhappy customer who would never shop there again rather than make a customer happy who would likely make many purchases there for years to come. Turns out the previous month's statement did clearly say that the balance should be paid off before X date to avoid the deferred finance charge, and I did completely overlook this. It basically amounts to them being able to charge me an additional $1100 for paying off the balance a week later than the statement said I should. I did, however, rely on the online account information in good faith, and I would've thought they'd cut some slack to a good customer. I was wrong. As far as I'm concerned, they can go fish for their extra $1100. I guess the message is "customer service is dead". Like we needed a reminder!
