Maytag Corporation Informative - Maytag LEMON dishwasher - Dishwasher-Quiet 300 Series

Dishwasher-Quiet 300 Series
Review by cmarire on 2006-12-29
MIDDLETOWN, OHIO -- Purchased a Maytag 300 Quiet Series Dishwasher on May 29, 2005 at Lowe's. It was installed in June.

After using it a few times I noticed dried food in the bottom by the door. Called Lowe's and theysent out a tech who told me that the water was not hot enough. Turned hot water heater up to 1500. STILL the same. Called Lowe's and this time thetech told me that I should not keep dw detergent under sink. STILL the same!

On Nov. 18 I went to Lowe's and had them refund me for the extended warranty I paid for. I called Maytag and they sent out a tech. He told me that maybe the food disposal in the dishwasher was clogged up. STILL had food in bottom at end of the cycle. One Dec. 29, 2005, Maytag sent out another tech. He said that there was not anything he could do and I would have to clean the dishwasherout after each use, as I have done ever since it
was new.

I have bought MAYTAG appliances in the past and never had trouble before. But since I have bought this dishwasher, I will never buy another MAYTAG appliance.

Though many brands claim you don't have to pre-rinse your soiled dishes, it's always a good idea. After all, it's a dishwasher, not a garbage disposal.

This model, as well as most Maytags, features a hard food disposer. This is a blade that spins with the motor to chop up food, suspend it in the filter and drain it with the water. The fact is, it IS a mini garbage disposer and with the upgraded filter on this high end model, you should not be having trouble unless you are doing absolutely no pre-rinsing whatsoever. I guess my question is, do you at least scrape the excess food off first?

I always pre-rinse what I place in the dishwasher. It is
common sense that you should. But three out of four techs
that came to repair it told me that I should not rinse my
dishes. The customer service rep I talked to also told me
that I should not rinse what I put in the dishwasher. I even
put a half gallon of vinegar in the dishwasher and ran a cycle, this is what one of the techs told me to do,
and it was the same. I have an idea that the food disposal in the dishwasher is not operating correctly. I will not
call for another repair on this problem as the techs that
they send out do not have enough knowledge of the dishwasher
and the reasons that they give me are stupid. I even used
several kinds of detergent-both liquid, packets, granules,
etc. with no different results. I wish I had kept my
previous GE dishwasher. It worked fine but the rack had
some rust and I figured that was not to healthy.

I have had my maytag d/w for about 7 years now. I love that it still looks brand new inside and out. I don't rinse my dishes, I only dump the excess food off in the trash. So you could say that I put dirty dishes in the d/w. They always come out sparkling. I use the cheep Aldi brand of d/w powder too. It sounds to me like if food particles are left behind after a wash that it is a poor quality machine.

First: Only scrape off big food chunks, do not pre-rinse or pre-wash the dishes. DW detergeant has to have food soil to activate off of.
Next: Water temp and water hardness make a huge difference. If you have even remotely hard water you have to adjust the amount of detergeant you use or it will not clean properly.
Finally: It is very possible the chopper isn't working, but it is equally as possible that it could be user error.

The water hardness was checked by the second of the four techs that came out to repair the dishwasher. He said that
the water tests out fine and that is not the problem. I scrape off my dishes and do not rinse them completely. I
never had to do any different with the other dishwashers I
have had in the last 37 years. I believe that the waste
disposal system is defective. A repair tech had me run a
half gallon vinegar through a cycle when it was only a month
old. It still was the same.

I bought this dishwasher shortly after Thanksgiving. I liked the idea that it was a Maytag and I wanted to upgrade to a quieter model. I am a little dissapointed that it is noiser than expected. I know it is due to the disposal system, I hope! So, far I have not had any other problems...knock on wood.

I have the Maytag Quiet Series 300 dishwasher, it was already here when I purchased my house but I believe it's only 2 years old. I have the exact same problem with debris collecting at the bottom of the dishwasher and stuck to the sides of the glasses and dishes. I have tried every recommendation and nothing works. I rinse my dishes, and never put dishes in with food stuck on except for the odd crumbs. My sister has a Maytag (not sure which model but a newer since she purchased it within the last 2 years) and she claims to have the same problem. I now have a sure-fire solution, I'm buying a new Bosch Dishwasher which I had in my old house and was whisper quiet and cleaned beautifully!

LEAVE FOOD ON THE DISHES!!!! It won't work well at all if you "pre wash" the dishes and only leave odd crumbs on the dishes.....stop that!!
