www.skatearoundusa.com Complaint - Undue discrimination

Review by kmi19@msn.com on 2002-02-17
ATHENS, GEORGIA -- I was recently told by David Mayfield, the manager or Skate Around USA in Athens Ga., that my children were not allowed to skate at 'his' skating rink. They have caused no problems what so ever. His only reason for this was due to his personal differences with my wife, which she happens to be a former employee.
He has no basis for this absurd rule since my wife or children have caused no disturbance or problems, they have broken no rules, and he has no documentation or police reports to indicate a reason for barring them from this business.

Kenneth Mize

To help keep me as a potential future customer, I would like the following:

I would like for my kids to be allowed to skate again and for my wife to be able to pick them up without the manager staring at her or harassing her by telling her she is not allowed to talk to any employees.

At the very least I would like a response from your company regarding this incident. Thank you for your time.

The funny thing is a business is private property and they reserve the right to refuse service. It's a different story if they are breaking laws such as race, sex or other generalized discrimination. Yet they can single out a particular individual for personal differences.

Well, I just happen to have evidence that this place does discriminate against blacks by trying to "run them out" with country music. Funny thing is, they only do this after they have paid and entered, then they have a "no refund" policy.
Does this add a different twist?

Whatever happened to morally right or wrong? So much emphasis is placed on legally right or wrong these days.No matter how rude or immoral something is, as long as it is within legal bounds, it must be O.K.
I am sorry for your innocent children having to suffer. One of these days, this morally wrong but legally right manager will have to reap what he has sown.

i have seen the curly haired manager discriminate against blacks before to, he plays country music so that they get tired of it and leave after paying admission, if they start an argument about the no refund rule then he commands them to leave and if they don't then then he will call the police. I myself have heard him say that he plays this music "o get those dirty niggers out of his rink because they always want to crowd up the place and bring drugs and such." that is an assumption that supports this discrimination. he has also shown favortitsm to a group of boys that skate there, one of them is a relative of his and the boys friends, when we are asked to clear the floor they are allowed to keep skating and he does not complain about it, but starts fussing at anyone else who attempts it. I think that the rink should stay open because of it convience od being in Athens and of its being normally open, I do however wish to see that this David (("mogilla gorilla" as we call him)) that calls himself a manager be fired and replaced with someone who will make Skate-Around-USA a better place for kids and adults alike to hang out and have fun, have better sanitation and rules, and be a public area where not just whites or family can come have fun. Just like a skating rink should be.

I have been skating there for 7 and a half years and i have notice how when a lot of colored people go, to run them off all he'll play is country music so they won't want to come back.
I also noticed how he never pays any attention to his costomers.

Personally i think the bathrooms at skate-a-round usa are disgusting! Also they play no good music anymore (hint hint country is way out of style). I also think the renatl skates need a little work.

That's so freakin unfair! just cus sum1 is a lil biased dont mean they gotta run peeps outa thier rink. Besides thats only a way to lose even more cusutamers!
Anyways i dont think I would want to really go there because their bathrooms dont even have doors! Oh the movie "Killer Cocroach" was filmed there too......my point is
that its durdy ( i dot care if my spelling is bad) also if that man's biased he's just gonna end up ruining his own buisness!

Does anyone here know how to spell! Maybe you all should go to school a little more and worry about skating a bit less.

I also have experienced the business and the people that runs it.It used to be a nice place for the kids to go but now it is full of bugs and the management could care less about the kids.I know for a fact he would put country music on to run the black people away he is very prejudice, and as far as running the people away he is good at that especially if he dislikes you or for some off the wall reason.I think they should let the people come back that got kicked out and l kick him out instead and hire someone that cares about the people that had trust in the company and now have lost it
