VPI Pet Insurance Complaint - VPI Pet Insurance is a big scam

Review by CITY on 2007-01-11
NY, NEW YORK -- These people do not care about you or your pet. They are a bunch of crooks. I had the same experience as Sparticus where they dragged out the claim by asking for more info even though I sent thorough records. I took the superior plan which is $33 per month and you pay 2 months up front. So while they dragged this out, they were able to collect monthly payments from me.

Then they deny my claims because my dog had a skin infection, which they said was pre-existing. They are disgusting, rude scam artists.

CITY, I have three cats and I will not buy insurance from anyone because I feel it is the same scam as they use one humans. I must have it on myself but that is a scam as well. What to do? Sorry you have to go through this kind of abuse.

Not sure if this is the one offered at PetSmart, but it didn't sound like much of a deal. Better to just find an inexpensive country vet, which is what we did.

Pet insurance is a good idea. I have 3 dogs and 4 cats and have been thinking about getting pet insureance. After reading the reviews here I wont use VPI. Does anyone know of a good company for insurance?

Hi Bill, Consumer Reports says unless you are in the habit of adopting chronically ill pets, it is not worth it to get pet insurance.

Don't get pet insurance. It's not worth it. Keep some money in savings in case something happens to your little one & then you can use that money instead.

I briefly considered getting insured. Long story short, my beloved cat got a urinary tract infection. $2,400 later, she's snoring here on the couch with me. Thought I had been kind of ripped off, but a little asking around told me my vet is actually less expensive than most. The vet business is a 1.8 billion dollar a year business, but everyone I've talked to says insurance isn't worth it. I don't know...doesn't sound good, does it?

City, Beanbbag, SherryH: Thanks for the advice. Most of our pets were adopted and are older with some problems but in the last 2 years we only spent about $1000.00 at the vets so maybe it isn't worth it.
