Sony Electronics Inc Complaint - Sony TV Problem Complaint - LCD Projection TV

LCD Projection TV - Complaint
Review by SonyBlues on 2007-01-14
M, OHIO -- My Sony Grand WEGA LCD Projection TV is one of many Sony TVs with defective optical blocks. This is the main projection component costing over $1,000 to replace. Sony issued a service bulletin acknowledging they made some defective TVs with this problem. But they are refusing to stand behind the product. Many of these defective TVs only last 1 to 3 years.
It appears there are so many bad ones, that Sony can't get replacement parts quick enough. We have been waiting 2 months and still no scheduled delivery date.
To add to the insult, Sony pays to repair some of these out-of-warranty TVs but refuses to pay for others when they all are in the same age range and have the same defective part!
Google "Sony TV Problems" as I did and you will find how widespread the problems are.

I'd call them up.

I would call them direct also. I think Sony makes OK stereo but their TV's have never been that great. Good luck to you and thanks for the information.

Not to differ with you Lid, but actually Sony has been pretty standard stuff in broadcast for many years. Additionally, their "Trinitron" monitor had been pretty rock-solid as well. Perhaps you should refine your google?

I purchased similar LCD projection (XDFE42A10) which worked 3 weeks, then began shutting down intermittently. We even purchased the extended warranty. Sony delayed action by about 6 weeks (first by referring to extended action desk when it was covered under the initial 1 year), then by dragging its feet 5 more weeks. Problem repeated 3 weeks later, and we took it 70 miles to Mobile for authorized repair. It took about 5 weeks to get it fixed (due to parts availability). After 2 more weeks, symptoms are back.

We have a lemon, and I want a new TV.

I am a long time sony authorized servicer (15+ years) with a warehouse full of these sets. I replace optical engines all the time, some times 3 or 4 times each. the new part is usualy bad new, or will fail within a weak or two. Im ready to drop sony completely. There quality and support lately is the worst ive seen in a long time. sony is NOT what they used to be. I,m about fed up. so dont blame the servicers, its not there fault. The servicers are getting screwed also. the more you complain to sony the better your chances of a resolution. they wont listen to "nice" people. you have to be persistant.they know theres a problem but dont seam to care unless lawyers are involved. I wish you all good luck!!

to those interested, i have called Sony several times and get the same answer, my set is out of warranty. browse class actions against Sony and read about the group that settled with Sony and what Sony agreed to do for them. the court awarded $1,600,00 to the lawyers. i have contacted one of those lawyers and he seems to be interested in another class action suit. this time it would be for anyone that purchased a tv from Sony that has the deffective optical block. let's all cross our fingers.
