Phone Scam Informative - Medical card scam - Special Medical Card

Review by Bus Driver on 2007-01-23
RACELAND, LOUISIANA -- We received a phone call this morning, and the woman said she worked for the goverment. She said that the goverment was issueing a medical card for seniors over the age of 60. If you didn't have this card your insurance would not be valid and you would incurr all medical expenses. She said your insurance card and your medicare cards would be invald. She told me that it didn't cost anything. She then varified my mailing address and asked for the correct spelling of my name. She then asked me for my bank filling number. I asked what she was talking about and she said my bank filling number. I said I had no idea what she was talking about. I asked if she was talking about my bank account number and she said yes. I told her I did not give out such information on the telephone. She got irate and said she could not process our information and we would not receive the very important cards we needed from the Federal Goverment. I told her I would have to receive a certified letter before I would give out such information. The call was rudely disconnected. I just wanted to warn other of such scams. I was not given a Company name or location, all I have is the phone number retrived from the called ID. Thanks

Congratulations! You did the right thing by refusing to give out bank info. I wouldn't have let the caller get that far.

Good call. I would have probably told the individual to hang on, I need to get my checkbook, then put the phone down and turned on the television. Every 5 minutes or so I would have come back to the phone and told him/her that I'm having a hard time locating it and am still looking...after about 15 minutes (if the caller hung on that long) I would have told them that I can't find the information they want and they'll have to call back at a later date.

Fun, fun... :)

What's the phone number? Report it to the state government where you live, so some unaware elderly person doesn't give out a bank account number.
