Grisoft Informative - Website & Support

Review by tnchuck100 on 2007-01-31
Someone here on my3cents spoke favorably of their anti-virus software. I went to their website to check it out. I tried to use their FAQ area but no questions would respond. All they have is questions....no answers!

I sent them an inquiry about this via their website "Contact us". They never responded.

In my opinion, if sales won't respond it is a pretty good bet the tech support is going to be far worse. They also list no contact phone numbers. That is another flag for me to pass up this company.

In this day and age of poor customer service being the norm I always try contacting a company and getting a non-canned response before spending my money with them. If more people would use that technique they might avoid being scammed by them.

Bottom line here: Take the free stuff if you like but don't risk your money with this company.

I've been using AOL's "Active Virus Shield" for a number of months now. It updates regularly and is TOTALLY FREE. Seems to work pretty well and I got tired of renewing my Norton's subscription yearly. So far - so good. Here's the link

Chuck, that's what I use - the free stuff. I've used it for years. Never needed the tech support (which is only available if you buy a version of the software), never needed to spend any money with them.

I have never needed customer support so I can't comment on that, but as far as the software itself, I have never had a complaint.
I've been using the free version of Avast for a few years now and love it.
It let's me know before a suspicious file is every fully downloaded on my PC. It also automatically updates and literally sounds like a fire engine when something tries to sneak past it.
I recommend it to anyone!

Their free anti-virus software is the best free stuff you can get, and it updates regularly. It doesn't stop spyware or most adware, but there are free ones for that too, like Adaware. You will not get good service on these free versions, and don't expect it. Their paid versions are better, but McAfee and Norton will provide better service and they are both well known and tried and trusted products. Still, why pay for it? McAfee and Norton are both system hogs, and they will slow your system down more than Antivir from Grisoft. I run it on all my home systems for free, and combined with my Firewall and good surfing practices, I have never had a virus infect any machine that Antivir could not kill. (yet!)
