Doityourself.com Complaint - Censorship on public forum

Review by friendly george on 2007-02-02
Maybe the internet isn’t as open, informative and accepting as we think it is. Doityourself.com presents itself as a platform for people to ask questions and get answers from experts on various subjects.

Being an insulation expert, thirty years experience, I decided to share my knowledge and expertise with the homeowners who visit the insulation section. What I experienced at the hands of the site monitor was any thing but professional and his actions were backed up and compounded by management.

The insulation that I sold and installed is ninety seven percent efficient as compared to the most commonly used material being about ten percent efficient and subject to health and performance problems when installed.

The site monitor, who is a contractor of thirty years, his admission, of the lesser quality material, proceeded to post comments about my recommended products and imply that these products last only about three years, plus other derogatory comments. When challenged to support his recommendations and comments, the challenges were met with silence and his charges repeated.

This all led to my being banned from their website. The banner that met me when I tried to login was: You have been banned for the following reason. SHAMEFUL promotion of radiant barrier insulation against common accepted building practice as well as rude and insulting posts. You have been previously banned as rbisys. Date ban will be lifted: Never.

I take it that I should be ashame of promoting something that is better against, what commonly accepted building codes? The rude and insulting posts were my attempt to challenge published information by the monitor. THIS IS CENSORSHIP pure and simple. Also, it is deception on the part of doityourself.com against the people who visit their website hoping to find honest answers and professional advice, not censorship and slanted opinions.

So, the nut of it is, you don’t know what doityourself.com is really selling or recommending when you visit their website and the info could be injurious to your health and pocketbook.

The problem is obvious. You interfered with their money source in some way. A sponser that did not agree with you. Remember, money ranks much higher than facts.

Were you promoting a product, or were you promoting your own business?

A site, such as you describe, isn't public property, it is a private, cash generating operation. If you were being perceived as disruptive, right or wrong, they are within their rights to block your access.

give us an address to see what you posted. I'd like to see what you said. This reminds me of the military purchasing Tanks. Do they buy the one with speed and misses it's target? or do they buy the one with less speed and hits the target everytime? Of corse they purchased the one with speed. The one that hits the target sounds like you but they don't want to mess with it.
