Sushi 1 in Westhampton, NY Informative - Bad ownership

Review by nygirlagain on 2007-02-12
WESTHAMPTON, NEW YORK -- An owner of a restaurant should never complain to employees about other employees, especially calling them stupid. Then turning to that employee and telling them they have no space in their brain. That is slander. This owner also does not pay his employees and wants them to pay out of their tips to work there. He also thinks that owning the restaurant entitles him to scream at employees and then tells them that it is part of the hospitality business. Sushi 1 is not a great place to work and the owner is definitely not the nice man he tries to get people to think he is.

He shouldn't say that to you or anyone else. If all of this is truly going on see your state labor board. Better luck on your next job.

"This owner also does not pay his employees and wants them to pay out of their tips to work there." Really? That's hard to believe.

In the Chinese and Japanese food service industry it seems to be a common practise to have the waitress tip out the kitchen and Sushi chefs part of their tips. By doing so the owners are using tip money to pay the help. It saves them money but at the expense of the waiters and waitresses. The labor dept has a blind eye when it comes to these type of operations.
