Hersheys/Cadbury Informative - LIVE WORMS in my chocolate bar!! - Cadbury Fruit & Nut Chocolate Bar

Cadbury Fruit & Nut Chocolate Bar
Review by Kimber915 on 2007-02-16
SOUTH, FLORIDA -- I recently purchased a CADBURY FRUIT & NUT CHOCOLATE BAR and was watching TV and eating it when something seemed unusual... I put my glasses on and was horrified to see LIVE WORMS in my partially eaten Candy Bar! (spent the rest of the evening heaving every time I thought about it, and thoroughly inspect everything before I reluctantly eat now).

For those who may not believe this, I do have photos. I took the candy bar and receipt to CVS where it was only purchased the prior day, they apologized and offered a $10 gift certificate. I refused as I merely wanted them to ensure this didn't happen again.

I wrote Cadbury in Europe who told me to contact HERSHEYS in the U.S., I felt like they were brushing it under the rug and tried to pacify me by sending a letter and a check for $50 (haven't cashed it).

They also tried to comfort me by stating they checked with the medical community and that the worms would die in the digestive process. I have the remainder of the candy bar WORMS INCLUDED in my freezer (proof) and have contacted the local newspaper ... I've checked with other local stores that carry the product, they claimed that no Hersheys reps. have contacted them warning them or requesting they check their products for contamination.

PS: For those of you who ask why legal action wasn't taken... it's because they say they cannot prove any physical damage was done and will not pursue the issue.

SO, MY WORD OF ADVISE TO ALL YOU CHOCOLATE LOVERS IS LIKE THE OLD SAYING "LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP" but "LOOK BEFORE YOU EAT".

I'm writing this letter because I feel like the entire situation was minimized by all parties involved.

Didn't you post this same complaint about worms in your candy bar a couple of weeks ago?

If so, why have you reposted it again?

If not, then you aren't the only person who has purchased a candy bar with worms in it!!!

Here is another complaint regarding the same issue. YUCK :P

Same type of complaint, different part of the country.

Live worms? Chocolate mixture is made at a very high temperature, therefore causing death to any living thing "swimming" in it. If it was alive, it must have come from your own home. If it was dead, then your story would have more credibility.

I was searching to see if anyone else has found LIVE worms in their Chocolate.... sure enough, check out this link and you can see the worms live and in action... http://www.ifilm.com/video/2695129

FARTMAN: This is my first post on this site, I found the site this evening when doing a google to see if anyone else had this disgusting experience.

Because of Hersheys lack of concern (IMO), I was not surprised to see how many incidences there were.

DEALCO: If you read my post correctly you would have noticed the incident happened within a day of purchase (receipt retained).... I do not have superworms in my home that infest candybars overnight.

I read something similar to this before. The pictures were fuzzy; use your imagination; nothing solid. So at best, why not take this up with the health department and aire it on the news? So You were victumized, you gonna wait around for someone like me to be victumized too just so I'll be here to confirm your story? Thanks alot!

Yeeeck, this meat in my sandwich smells terrible, smell this meat Kid7, see if it smells terrible to you?.

Again, it isn't the chocolate, but the nuts that get worms in them. It happens after a chocolate bar is past its sell by date. We used to have this problem when I was working at a cinema.

I do believe you, it's not the first time it's happened. I would suggest you post the picture on your blog it will help people remember before they buy and because a picture is worth a thousand words and it's very easy to post the pic on your blog.

Please post the picture here, as DB suggests. I remember when I was a little girl, my grandmother was cracking open walnuts, and there was a live worm in it. But still, to have one in your candy bar is a big turnoff.

'...the entire situation was minimized by all parties involved...' But it wouldn't have been 'minimized' had a few more zeroes been tacked on to the certificate issued by CVS and the check from Cadbury, right?

That's nothing, someone went to this restaurant they ordered a burger. They took one bite, and a small mouse came out of the burger scared because I think they bit it's tail. This did not happen until they were taking a second bite and the rat touched her lips before scurrying off. The customer thought that she noticed something crunchy in her sandwich, but did because this was her first time at the restaurant so she thought it was supposed to be crunchy. She opened up the sandwich and she found a half eaten rat.(she had not eaten the rat but the mice like to eat other mice). In the sandwich she could see it's the rat's eyes had been eaten out of the face and they ate down to the rat's intestine. There was rat droppings on the bun when she opened it up. When she saw this she threw up and saw rat droppings and mice fur in her barf.

You should take the $10.00 from CVS and the $50.00 from Hershey's and go by some good See's candy.
I won't ever eat figs anymore because I had bought a plactic/sealed tub of them to make a dessert. When I opened the container the lid was full of moths. Dead and alive. BLECH! I still get grossed out just seeing figs.

Thank's ghostbuster, you just made me lose my appetite. *Goes to washroom and throws up after reading ghostbuster's post.
Posted by Shakra on 2007-02-18:
Been telling scary stories around the campfire, ghostbuster? Or are you just scanning the urban legends sites?

Posted by Anonymous on 2007-02-18:
Ghostbuster,

In the first place, Your story is so friggin rediculous! Giving the readers here every detail is so immature. Did it give you a rush to say those gross things? I bet you play with fire crackers!

I am having lots of doubt here. Live worms and the wrapper was not noticable compromised? As someone stated the worms could not have arrived through the process of production. They could not survive the heat/time etc. so they had to arrive after production. How did they get into the wrapper?

And we are still waiting for the picture to show up.

Pardon my computer illiteracy but I'm new to this site and don't know how to post photos on here but would be happy to email it to you.
For those who are doubtful and feel I have not properly informed people, that couldn't be farther from the truth as I not only have taken the time to contact all companies involved but also reported it to the FDA, USDA and a couple of other agencies... and went as far as subjecting myself to your ridicule by posting the information on here.

If you would like to see what it looked like, PLEASE CHECK OUT THIS LINK/VIDEO that I found:

This is exactly what it looked like... but worse! (the video is shot by a producer who unfortunately had the same disgusting experience but is 100% better with a camera.. happened to be the same candy bar, purchased at the same chain of stores at a different time and location)

Best wishes to all and "CAVEAT EMPTOR"

(PS: Hersheys stated that the worms would have been killed in the heat of the manufacturing process but must have obtained them in the distribution process/possibly having been stored near pet food etc. Since this has occurred at more than one CVS location then maybe they are responsible, I have no idea.. nor do I know how they managed to get within the wrapped foil).

kid 7 - Did it make you sick also. :D
Posted by Kimber915 on 2007-02-18:
Yes Ghostbuster, it most definitely did... I'm sure right now it's more psychologically rather than physically.
Even though Hersheys stated in their letter that the worms cannot survive in the digestive system, It's a fact that there are worms and parasite infestations in peoples bodies as documented by the medical community.
Needless to say, I am thoroughly and suspiciously inspecting anything I eat now and have had some rather disturbing dreams since. (lol.. not a "Fear Factor" type of gal by any means)

I've been trying to post the photo as a GIF and JPG but it keeps refusing it.

This just happened to me last night!!!! I'm from NY and I am sooo grossed out and upset by this, please tell me if you get anywhere . I am calling the Food and Drug administration on monday. My little friends are in the freezer too! Everyone is saying its when chocolate is old but there is no "sell by" date on the Cadbury wrapper. How is the consumer supposed to know if its old? The chocolate looked fine, it was not white like when chocolate is old. I believe it is from improper storage not that it was old.

To Noneill: Comment dated from 2/18
As far as your doubts are concerned, I too have pictures of the worms. The wrapper was not compromised, I still have that too! The top of the candy bar was not damaged at all, it was the underneath so it was not noticable when I ate some. Only when I went ot break another piece off, and got to the part where the worms were did I feel the crumpled chocolate with my fingers on the underneath, then upon a closer look, did I see it was freakin moving! I'd be glad to send it to you and you can taste a bit yourself. Why would anyone make this up? I'm a little past the "let's gross people out" stage in my life and I'm sure Kimer915 is as well. I have no idea how they got there, again the paper wasn't damaged. The worms are small like an inch worm if you remember them, but white not green. I'm going to try to post a pic from my Photobucket account. Hopefully that works. See below:

I was wondering about this complaint quite reciently. It seems that JessWags and the other's complaining about worms have all disappeared at the same time. Weird.

I also found worms in the same type of candy bar. It is beyond disgusting. The store manager told me that worms are most often found in Cadbury Fruit & Nut bars and those Ferrere Roche (however you spell it). It was not the store's fault, or at least, the chocolate had not expired. India had a massive problem with worms in Cadbury chocolate. If you had this problem, please contact me to discuss legal action.
