R & D Ground Services Complaint - Deceptive / Unfair Billing Practices
CHAMPAIGN-URBANA, ILLINOIS -- Called late afternoon 2-13 for snow removal services. Asked for estimate, discussed what might justify top price range, and talked about what services were included. Was told work would be done early am 2-14. After a couple of phone calls, drive was plowed late afternoon 2-14. He came to door with bill for 125.00 - Which was top of price range. I first said that i was told the estimate included small porch, steps and walk (also supposed to be de-iced after completed). He agreed that,yes, it did - but that he was so far behind, he was doing drives first and would return for the rest as he caught up. Told him i'd been given range of 75-125 and asked what justification there was for it being top dollar. He replied that there was just more snow than he realized. I went ahead and paid full amount, asking for reassurance that he would be returning. Had to make repeated phone calls, before he finally returned late evening 2-19. Completed work and came to the door with a bill for 60.00. I angrily responded that the check he had already received was supposed to cover that work. He again mumbled something about how much snow there was and how long it took him (no de-icing). He asked if i was going to write him a check, and i told him no - slamming the door. Went to his truck for a couple of minutes and returned - door being answered by a visiting friend. Heard them talking about a fee being added and what he was actually asking for. I returned to the door, seeing a "temper fee" of 100.00 Added, but he said he was waiving that and i only owed 60. I reminded him of comments made at time of first visit, regarding inclusion of services and my concern regarding full payment, with job incomplete. He pulled his hat away from his ear, saying that he had hearing difficulity and "didn't hear it that way." I then grabbed the ticket, swearing at him, and slammed the door. He stood outside a couple of minutes, knocking and talking - things such as "you'll be hearing from my atty". Called my house @ 10:38pm, calling 6 times in a row and hanging up when machine answered. Called again @10:50, doing the same thing 3 times. Had then switched phones, so that id name didn't show - only private name/number. Called twice @5am 2-19.
I have no intention of paying additional charges, but want to get word out there, so that others can be warned to watch for these questionable billing practices.
