Culligan Finance Complaint - Promotional Free Finance Fraud

Review by Readyfire on 2007-02-20
LOXAHATCHEE, FLORIDA -- I purchased a home water system at the end of January, 2005 and chose their promotion to make monthly payments at no interest for a year. I called in December to inquire about what my payoff would be and when it was due in order to avoid the accrued finance charges. I was told I owed $1,247.00 and it was due on or before 2/01/07. I called again in January when I received my statement, because I was confused as the bill had two different due dates. I asked this other person again when would my final payment have to be received in order to avoid the finance charges. Again, I was told 2/01/07. I electronically set up the payment from my bank and it was received by Culligan Finance on 1/31/07. My next statement showed that I owed $256.43 in interest. I called them and spoke with a supervisor and then spoke with a Vice President. They both insisted that I was told to pay by 1/24/07. Why would I call twice and then send in the full payment a few days late? If I was told to have the payment in 1/24/07, I would have done so. I have excellent credit (FICO just over 800) and the snide VP said after a long discussion that we could split the charges. This is absurd. I will file a complaint with my State Attorney General and with the Better Business Bureau. Also, the Culligan water system doesn't do such a great job, so either way AVOID this company and their finance scams!

This isn't the first time I've read such complaints about Culligan Finance. Readyfire, I'm not sure how you are at fault but I feel comfortable some of the other members will post the exact nature of your failure cause if anything the m3c membership is quite excellent at assigning blame for anything to the consumer. I'm on pins and needles waiting to see how this one is your fault.

Thanks.
I am already in the process of filing complaints with the Florida Dept. of Financial Services and the Wisonsin State Attorney General (the state that Culligan Finance / Aqua Finance is based in)
