Camden Bay Apartments Complaint - Demolition of exterior to remodel

Review by patty3joy on 2007-02-20
TAMPA, FLORIDA -- Attention Consumer Protection. I moved into Camden Bay Apts, West Hillsbourgh Ave, Tampa, in October to be closer to my job. I am a Nurse who works nights and sleeps during the day. I find it impossible to sleep in my apt while this demolition is in progress. The Camden office offered me the model apt for the next 10 weeks, but the bed in the model is causing me back problems, making it difficult for me to work. I asked if I could be moved to an apt. compreable to what I am living in now that has been completed. The office is in agreement, but I would be responsible for a $300 transfer fee plus a trash pick-up fee of $25 monthly and $200 increase in rent monthly, omitting the cost of the moving company and the reconnecting of service fees. This situation has really gotten out of hand, I have had to call off of work a number of times because I couldn't sleep. Please help, I originally chose to rent in this complex because it looked pretty and restful, of which I have found neither.

Why don't you move the bed from your old apartment into the model apartment?

Agreed. Even if it costs you a few bucks it would be worth it to get some sleep.

You might want to check with your local board of health. Often you are protected against noise violations under health ordinances.

The new apartment must not be comparable to your old one if the rent is going to be $200 per month more. I agree with the others - offer the maintenance guy $20 to move your bed and wait them out.

Write your city councilman or what EV the local government types are called in your area. In my city there are tons of ordinances protecting people from noise pollution but I live in green peace America. You might be surprised how much good your local city gov types can do for you.
