Bernie's Audio and Appliances Complaint - Defective dryer

Review by jr1957 on 2007-02-20
NEWINGTON, CONNECTICUT -- I bought a washer and dryer at Bernie's Audio and Appliance in Newington Ct. The dryer was delivered with a broken door switch. Will not work. Went to the store, salesmen said they will send me a new one and pick up the broken one. Not to worry. He sounded as if he really cared about the customer. He lied, turned out he did not have the authority according to customer service. Turns out it was all a show for the other customers that were listening at my expense. Meanwhile I had to take another day off from work for what I thought was my replacement dryer being delivered. After getting that wonderful news I called their tech to make an appointment to service the dryer. Said they needed to wait a week for a door switch part to come in. Then they would set up appointment with me . Never called back just like customer service. I had to call them, finally received a time that they would come and fix this dryer. Took more time off from work. He showed up but forgot the part, the part we waited a week for. He then said someone would be out the next day to finally replace the door switch. Now it's a week later and more excuses. Why can't they give me what I paid for? I can't even bring the defective dryer back to the store without paying a restocking fee. I will never buy anything at Bernie's Audio and Appliances in Newington Ct. again. According to tech, salesmen will tell you anything in order for you to buy. The horror stories about this chain are well known. Tech also told me the reason delivery people do not see if your appliance works before leaving is because defective appliances are not their problem. Buyer beware!!
Jim Roy PS Never again!

They could have easily taken a switch off a floor model and replaced it when the part came in. It would make no difference to the reliability of the model it was borrowed from and a customer wouldn't have a brand new non-working dryer. A strange attitude also they take by not wanting to know if the unit works in the field upon delivery, because that means the delivery guys would have to bring it back on the spot. They would rather just be dumb to a potential DOA and fix it under warranty later. You're right jr., their customer service procedures flat out suck.
