Cowles Ford in Woodbridge, VA Complaint - Ford focus - bad service

bad service - Complaint
Review by mstraci on 2007-02-23
NORTHERN VA, VIRGINIA -- I bought a car from Cowles Ford in Woodbridge, VA and got the loan from Ford Motor Credit. A week after buying the car, Cowles called me into there office to redo some paperwork. I noticed the prices on the paper were erased sneakingly upping the total price to $6,000.00 more then amount I was told I could have the car for. I was informed because I had car for over 3 days, I was stuck with the car and the total price.

I went to another Ford dealer on Rt 1 in Alexandria, VA to trade in this hig priced car and was approved for a car however, I couldnt get anyone at that Ford Dealership to help me even after I got a letter for a loan approval. And to make it worst the manager informed me she promised I would have a better experience then the one previously mentioned.

They need to make this type of scam illegal - the car dealers are doing this far too often these days, calling people back and telling them they have to pay more or pay a high interest rate because their credit came back worse that they thought it would be. There is no reason why the dealer can't lock the credit down at the time of sale.

In WA state, dealers have three business days to accept or reject your loan application and if rejected they must return your trade in and take the car back - *with* the mileage you have already put on the new car. This may be illegal in your state - check with your atty general. Might be time to file a complaint...

I wish you would have posted this sooner. If a dealer, or any retail sale for that matter, ever ask you to return to redo a retail installment contract that is not to or better than your original agreement you have NO! obligation to accept the new terms. You have the right to leave at that point without owing a dime! I don't care if you had the car 3 days or 3 months! Some dealers try to play hard ball by convincing you that you may owe $$$ for the time or mileage that you used the vehicle. Truth is they have NO LEGAL leg to stand on since they in fact have broken or cannot meet the original terms of the agreement!!! Now listen very closely, the way I read your post you said the dealer "erased" . Are you saying that your copy does not have the purchase price on it???? If so it is a violation of FTC law requiring FULL DISCLOSURE on the contract. You won't need to worry about trading the car in as you can return it and get your entire amount that you spent refunded. Good Luck

Good luck to you. It is a sad shame that an American company like Ford is allowing one of their dealers to treat customers like this. I have owned Fords all my life and I love em. I noticed Attorney General in your heading. Hopefully you got hold of someone to help you. Sounds like dealerdirect knows what their doing. Take care.

I worked for this RACIST company for 14 years!! I hated every single day that I was there. They claim that quality is "Job One" BULL we all know that "QUANTITY IS JOB ONE" they don't give a damn about quality. I can recall making note to VARIOUS DEFECTS in some of the internal parts for the transmissions but they were overlooked. I was even reprimanded for refusing to run defective parts! "Found On The Road Dead" "Fix Or Repair Daily" this is SO very true with this company. Someone should tell Bill Ford just because your last name is FORD doesn't mean you can run a corporation!
