DirecTV Inc Complaint - Still being billed for service 5 months after request to discontinue service
PHOENIX, ARIZONA -- In September of 2002 I phoned DirecTv to request info on billing and to discontinue service. It was not discontinued. In Novemeber of 2002 I began writing letters. Finally, in January of 2003 they discontinued the service. They billed me for services from Sept 02 until Jan 2003 even though I repeatedly phoned and wrote letters about cancelling my service. Now, January of 2007 I am still receiving collections letters, and being told my dispute must have been considered invalid. So why is my dispute invalid? They don't know, it just must be or I wouldn't have gotten a collections letter is what I was told. I phone DirecTv but they can't help me and because it has been referred to collections I must call the collections agency. The collections agency says that I have to pay it. Why? I disputed it? They say your dispute must have been invalid.....they don't know why. As you can see, this is a vicious circle that I have been running around in since 2002. My concern is that DirecTv is insesitive to the consumers and doesn't really care that due to the negligence of one of their employees to not cancel my account when I requested I now have a negative credit mark as well as owe monies I shouldn't. I would warn any consumer that deals with this company to triple document and if possible record any conversations you have with the customer service department regarding cancellations or be prepared to spend the next 5 years trying to resolve it before you finally say FINE TAKE THE MONEY I DO NOT OWE YOU and are left with the feeling that DirecTv is a very very bad uncaring company that you hope goes under. I have been left with a very bad, negative feeling about DirecTv and will spend time letting others know that they are NOT the way to go. There are much better options out there than dealing with a mega corp that feels justified in collecting money from people that do not owe it.
