Amtrac Complaint - Bad service
HTFD/NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT -- My friend and I traveled to Florida in January on Amtrac. We got on in Hartford. Conductors didn't even offer to help get bag up stairs of train. We are both in our 70s. Changed trains in New Haven and the service was no better. One conductor was absolutely rude when asked a question, the younger one stood by the train car while we struggled to get our suitcase on board. Another passenger helped us. It was announced when the dining car was closed but never when it was opened. It was a long 5 hours. Finally Washington DC. We finally approached a polite person and he showed us to the lounge because we had a two hour wait. The person in the lounge was wonderful. At boarding time we had a Red Cap and a shuttle to our sleeper car where we had reserved a bedroom. We then heard "I am Preston and I will be taking care of you," What a glorious sound! and feeling of profound relief! From then on everything was great. The dates we traveled were January 18 and 19. There should be some training for the people who work in Hartford and New Haven. "Common courtesy "would be a perfect seminar for them. Needless to say we will not be taking the train out of Hartford or New Haven ever again.
