Coastside Family Medical in Half Moon BAy,CA Complaint - A doctor's refusal to dispense needed meds....

Review by JusticeForAll on 2007-03-09
HALF MOON BAY, CALIFORNIA -- I am not allowed to name the doctor...but the doctor on call for Friday, 3/9/07 refused to call in needed pain meds for me...and I only asked for 10 meds to get me through the weekend. He told his nurse, as he would not speak to me himself...that it was 'policy' not to call in meds over the weekend...and I had asked for these meds earlier in the day. He was unethical..and therefore Coastside Family Medical is unethical.

I am NOT saying that you would do this, but I bet there have been a lot of people calling the on-call doctor to get pain meds that they don't need. The on-call doctor may not have access to your records if he is covering for another practice and doesn't want to risk giving you pain meds without an exam and knowing your situation.

I don't think they should call in pain pills for you if they don't know you or why you need them. The doctor acted in an ethical manner and therefore Coastside Family Medical is ethical. If this is the best you can do, STOP IT!

If you need pain meds that bad than go to the ER. A lof of doctors want to see you before dispensing pain medications, especially depending on what the pain medication is.

It's not just a matter of the doctor not wanting to, it's the law. Especially in pain medications. It is usually posted in a doctors office that they will not dispense certain pain medications on the first visit because of the abuse of medications. People go from one office to the next getting RX's for drugs. They have to check. Also, only an unethical doctor would phone in pain meds without even seening you at an office visit and especially if you just phone and say you want some pain meds. How do they know what's really wrong with you? There is so much medicine abuse that doctors have to be very careful anymore. I know you said you only needed 10 to get you through the weekend but really, why should he just take your word? They have heard every trick in the book from people just trying to get meds. Like Brenda said, if it was so bad you could have gone to an ER. This is just how it has to be because of so many that abuse drugs. It ruins it for those that really need help with managing their pain. I'm not saying that's what you're doing but this is just reality and these doctors licenses are on the line.

They are very careful with pain meds, and for a good reason. I have had computer generated pain med prescription from my doctor that the pharmacy would not fill just because it was a computer generated signiture. I had to wait for two days for him to call it in.

C'mon, gang! You're being too hard on Justice. She needed the medication to heal all the pain inflicted upon her when she took a trip and there were six couples included but no singles. Whew! 10 meds to get through a weekend? When I fractured my ankle, one Tylenol 3 put me out for six hours. Maybe Justice should contact Dr. Kapoor? They're both in CA, aren't they?
