Cameratopia.com Complaint - Cameratopia.com - Internet Merchant

Review by trbrogan@mminternet.com on 2002-03-23
NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- This internet merchant advertises the lowest price on items they advertise as "in stock'. Then uses "bait and switch" to sell additional over priced items and services. When consumer dose not purchase the overpriced item, they then inform person the low priced item they want is not in stock. This merchant practices DISHONEST & FALSE ADVERTISING! I ordered a Canon ZR-50 DV camcorder from Cameratopia that was advertised "IN STOCK". When their "professional" sales representative called back to confirm order he proceeded to try to sell me a lens filter, a wide angle lens, and an extended warranty. After answering no to each add-on sale, I was told the product was out of stock. When I asked why it was advertised in stock, I was told this is a new item, and they never had it in stock. A lie on top of a lie. Buyers beware!

It is amazing what companies will try to put past consumers to turn a buck. Hopefully someday we'll find a way to keep companies honest, but until then, we must keep posting on sites like this!

I ahve purchased through this company before only purchasing a camera then a camcorder and received everything as expected. Yes the salesman tried to sell me extra things but I ended up getting them at a local store for relatively the same.
