Identity Theft Alert Informative - ID theft alert

Review by Sail27 on 2007-03-22
"Authorities have shut down a web site that was hosting a huge list of personal financial information, but anyone with an Internet connection can still see it, and more lists have been found."

It looks like there was a massive repository of personal information compiled and hosted on an Eastern European web server. Just a heads up to be careful out there. There has GOT to be something done about this as ID theft is getting out of hand. More information on Seattle ABC affiliate KOMO TV 4:

This is why I use the random credit card number generator offered from MBNA credit card. It allows me to create a temporary credit card number that has a limit I set and an expiration I set, so it can only be used for that purchase and will expire shortly after. That way, if it falls into the wrong hands... it can't be used.

I think most credit card companies offer this now... if you don't already use this feature... check out your credit card's website and you'll most likely find a tool available.

Sparticus, I have heard about that MBNA with random card numbers. That is a good idea and I should give that a try. I have Bank of America and it does not have that feature.

Sparticus, good information! I didn't even know that something like that existed.

That is good information Sparticus. Many have never heard of the option.

MRM, they do. You go under the services and then benefits and it's called shopsafe. I've never used it before though.
