AOL/Netscape Complaint - Netscape 6 request for help ignored

Review by zsurf99 on 2001-01-26
JAVASCRIPT -- I've been using my Micron computer (Lots of memory & everything else) with Windows98 for a little over a year with the
Netscape browser. I recently updated the browser to version 6...for about twenty minutes. I disliked the way it took
control of all of my image files, rendering it impossible open them with the ease that I was accustomed to. I uninstalled
Netscape 6 immediately. Unfortunately, all of my image files (even most new ones) are still being treated as if they
require Netscape 6 to open them. (I get a window stating that 'Netscape 6 can't be found', and the file won't open).
I'm sure there must be some straight forward way to correct this. I have sent three emails over the course of two
weeks to the appropriate Netscape link. So far, I've received no response at all! At this time, I'm trying ACDSee on trial
basis to circumvent my inability to open the image files after netscape6 merged with them and refused to let go. It really
annoys me that I'm probably going to have to buy this software to overcome a problem that didn't exist prior to my brief
encounter with Netscape6. It infuriates me that the company responsible for this won't even reply to my requests for
help. All I want to do is remove this persistent link between my image files and whatever residual part of the Netscape 6
program is hanging on to them.

Stay away from Netscape 6. Stick with V4.7.6 until Netscape corrects the MANY problems. Remember "newCoke?"

to re-associate a file with another program just click once on the file you wish to open then hold the left shift button while right clicking on the file. From here click on "open with" and now choose the program that you want to use to open that file with. Put a check mark in "always use this program to open this type of file"

netscape will not reply to refund request either. I joined their "free" trial", used the program for less then 24 hours and then over a period of 3 calls spent over an hour on the phone getting a complete runaround, but no money back. Paid 10.95 to learn never to use netscape as an isp. May not be completely happy with aol but they have not deceived and robbed me.
