SuperTan Complaint - SuperTan Centers - Do not sign a contract with them!!
BROADVIEW HEIGHTS, OHIO -- On January 3rd of this year, a representative of Supertan came into my work, handing out a week of free tanning with no obligation. It sounded great, so after talking to the girl she scheduled my first appointment for January 4th, allowing me to bring a friend. When we arrived the next day, we were given a tour of these luxurious tanning beds that the workers claimed "were the only ones like it in the state". We complemented the place, for it was aesthetically pleasing, yet very pricey. The workers got right down to business - they offered us a "special deal"....if we signed up today and returned our week of free tanning, we would get the usual membership fee for half off, and we would get to use the upgraded beds for ten days. It sounded like an excellent deal....but the catch was in the contract. You had to sign a contract that said you had to pay all your money up front to use their services. After using their services for only a month, I found I was displeased with the place. They led me to believe that the tanning beds we got to use were the ones we saw first when we went on tour. "Nope, sorry", they said after my first ten days were over,"the 100 watt beds are the ones used for your plan...but you can upgrade for an extra 30 bucks a month" What?! I was already paying 22 dollars per month for these dingy tanning beds and crappy service. Even though it was winter, they never cleaned the wet snow off the floor from peoples boots, and boy was that fun stepping in as you took your socks off and layed down in a bed. The garbage cans reeked since they were never cleaned, and the people their...man are they nasty. I overheard the guy who worked their full time saying some pretty demeaning things about his "less attractive customers". Does anybody really want to be talked about behind their back when all they want to do is tan? He sounded just like a gossipy little schoolgirl, talking about people to his fellow employees and even other customers!! Well..I had heard enough of his live blog about the customers, and I decided to cancel my contract. Yet when I sent in my letter of cancellation, it didnt process...just because it wasnt certified! I did everything as I was told to, talking to one of the employees to make sure I did everything right. Yet she never mentioned certifying the letter, so I got penalized. Since I didnt send it in 30 days prior to the next withdrwal, I ended up getting charged for March and even April! If they would have just accepted my letter the first time around, it wouldnt have happened at all. Did I mention that I found this out after the Debt collection agency sent me two letters stating what I owed? I never even received a phone call from the place asking where my money was...this happened only five days after my payment was scheduled. So now I'm stuck with two months of service that (even though I paid for) I cant use because I cancelled. Thats over 50 dollars down the drain...its funny because thats how much off they gave me when I signed for their "special deal". Some deal that was. Trust me, this is one place you do not want to get your skin into.
