Maytag Corporation Complaint - FIRE HAZARD - Maytag Stove # MER5775QAQ (Fire Hazard)

Maytag Stove # MER5775QAQ (Fire Hazard) - Complaint
Review by DeMo on 2007-04-02
VALLEJO, CALIFORNIA -- On November 7, 2005, I purchased a Maytag Stove Model # MER5775QAQ Serial # 10031042GT from a Maytag dealer in my area with an extended warantee to 11/2007.Starting in February 2007 the stove burner has been coming on intermittingly by itself and I have documented the times. My 9 year old son was almost burned twice. I have called Maytag Warrantee dept. I had a Service Tech out to my home 3 times from the dealer where I purchased the stove. 1st time couldn't find problem & Maytag suggested changing a part. 2nd time Maytag sent wrong part to Service Tech. The manager of the Dealership has personally spoken to Maytag about my problem. They told him they didn't know what to do or what the correct part was to fix the problem. I have called Maytag Corp, and the Ext Warantee managers. I have been getting the run around for weeks. The Mgr and I had a conference call w/ Maytag on 3/29/07. He suggested to Maytag since they don't know what to do that he would replace the stove if Maytag would reimburse him but that the stove is a FIRE HAZARD and needs to be removed from my home. They have refused. This evening I have filed a complaint w/ the BBB of Western MI.This new Maytag FIRE HAZARD needs to be addressed. The manager of the dealership is willing to cooperate and help me in this matter.

Money or not I would get the stove out of my house! How can you sleep at night knowing the stove might come on by itself?

I can't believe a tech can't fix this. What else but the switch could it be? Nothing could possibly turn on a burner if a working switch has the circuit open. While inconvenient, you need to find the breaker on your panel and keep power off to the range when not in use till it's fixed.

Very good advice Slim and the breaker you are looking for will be a 40 amp breaker in your fuse box.

I think she is waiting for her nine year old to get badly burned so that she can sue. That is why she is keeping a dangerous stove. The first time her nine year old almost got burned she should have kept him away from the stove, but it almost happened again. Perhaps she is waiting for him to get hurt to make money off his pain.

Who's the Extended warranty company? I agree with Slim and turn the power to the appliance off as that is what you will be told when you call the Maytag company.

I have had my stove since 1999. I still love it. However, the burners have a mind of their own. They will not boil water unless they WANT to. The repair man has changed out the elements a few times but it hasn't helped. I think they think I'm crazy, but what does that have to do with the price of tea in China? :) I used the "clean" feature once, and noticed some odd things happened. So...as not to "push" my stove I have stayed away from the auto clean and just live with the gunk. Personally, I feel that the wiring is substandard for some reason, and babying my stove may be helping me keep it longer. When I first got my sparkley new stove I noticed that the top oven rack was bent or tilted so it was not level. The maytag shop that I purchased it from just shrugged about it. Should have known from then that the innerds of the stove would be the same level of workmanship.
