People Search Informative - What's available on the internet at no charge

Review by Nohandle on 2007-04-06
I really never realized what personal information was available out there and it troubles me. I recently typed in a friend's name and was able to obtain street address, city, state and telephone number. Out of curiosity, I typed in my own name which is not common. Yep, there it all was and I haven't signed up on any classmates, reunions etc sites. I would suggest you each do the same. It will give you a somewhat uneasy feeling and will also make you question where all this information is coming from.

To add to your point... More employers are now "Googling" potential employees before hiring them... something to consider before your next interview...

I google my name all the time, and nothing comes up. I google my maiden name, and nothing comes up. I guess I don't exist. But it is scary what's out there, how much information. Google your M3C screen name, and see what pops up.

In addition, our medical information is now required to be confidential without all sorts of signed releases. Why is not our personal information? This is troublesome at best.

I agree. It's a totally different world we are living in. Maybe my information does not come up, because I always have an unlisted phone number? Just taking a guess here.

Skye and Sparticus, thanks you're both most helpful. Skye, be glad your personal information doesn't come up. My telephone number doesn't but other information does.. street address, city and state. Gosh, if I paid for some additional information I wonder what might pop up?

If you go to Superpages.com and enter your home phone number, your name and street address may show up, that is, if you're listed in the telephone book.

I tried my name and I found out I am many people all in one with many professions. I am poor, I am rich, and I am a doctor, physics professor and a lot of things. But I am not I; I am not to be found by my name alone. Sad man!

But I do agree they always try to get any information on you they can. I don’t care who they are either the biggest wrong doer in the information gather’s is the senses Burrow. They force you to give information and then sell it, which is treason against the people!

My name is just so common, especially with two notable football coaches and a NASCAR driver, that anything that may pertain to me specifically is buried under tons of other hits.

NoHandle...I had a nice long response on how I get my info on people with knowing as little as a screen name...then I deleted it before I posted it because I did not want to give too much info out to any stalkers that may be out there...seriously...that's true. But I can say, with just a first name and a company fax number, I was able to track down my cyber buddy ... of 11 years now...by tracking down his company's name, address, his position, his home address, phone number, other email address', the exact route he took to and from work, how much he paid for his home, even found a picture of him that I tracked down once I found out the importance of his position in the company he worked for, and checked out the business news online and found he had his pic in the Wall Street Journal. I know what college he graduated from, what law school he went to and when he graduated, his age...and I have to admit, it didn't take any time at all to find out all of this...Once we got to know each other and he would confide (and confirm) this info to me, I had told him what I found on him...I told him I had to make sure I wasn't talking to an ax murderer...oh yeah, I also found out, he has no police record too! And I didn't have to pay one penny for any of this info.

DB, I think that's part of the point I'm trying to make. It's a big deal now on our medical information..you know the drill if you've been in a doctor/dentist office recently. Yet, our personal information is out there for the taking. Come one, come all, help yourself and here's my telephone number and address if you'd like to drop in.

I agree...and the reason I did that search was to find out exactly how much information was available with knowing so little about a person...I never expected results like that. But, at least I know he isn't an axe murderer! You can only imagine what they can get with your SS#. Think about it...how difficult is it to get a person's Mother's maiden name...all you have to do is know her brother or Father's name...geez...when I have to use that question as a security on the internet...I use a fake name..because you don't have to prove it's her name, only that it matches what you entered in the first place...I would suggest everyone use an alas' Mother's Maiden name. That way, If someone does get her name, then they can't do much with it...I use the same "fake" name for credit cards and everything that asks for it...only I know the "fake" name.

Passingby, I thought you were teasing, but no, there are in fact photos at the site you suggested. At least my latest mug shot wasn't there. I expect the time will come, if it hasn't already, one can click on and view a person's driver's license photo..if nothing else.

Can someone give me the link to this site? The ones I looked at do not have any images. Please.....thank you.

Skye, I just typed in Images on the MSN home page. After that, one of the selections was Google Image Search and there I was.

I checked out the images site and tho I didn't see any pics of myself (thank God)I did see a book titled "Blonde" Well, that was way too many hair colors ago so maybe I was there and maybe not :-)

DB,I also did the alais mothers maiden name. Waaay too common. Since I can't remember too many things at once I use the same name for just this reason. Also MRM, if you want to remove the phone number there is an icon you can click on at that site and follow the prompts. I can't remember exactly which one but I'll check it out and post it.
