Dell / Microsoft Complaint - Vista - dimension e520 w/vista

Review by unhappy with dell vista on 2007-04-12
KODIAK, ALASKA -- I have never been so unhappy or frustrated with a product in my 52 years. Help is no help. On the phone for day in and day out without success, 8 days on the phone for min. of 5 hrs. a day. Talking with people who could hardly speak English and were hard to understand. spending $1,000.00 on a dell w/ vista has been a nightmare. I feel robbed of my money, time and tolerance. in a 2 week period I have returned one tower and am now packing up the second tower to be returned also I GOING TO BUY A MAC.

Totally fed up with dell p.c. and this garbage program called vista. Sure it looks pretty but it does not work. I've BEEN ROBBED BY DELL
Ok its a new day. After a short time, my computer guy got my brand new Dimension E520 w/Vista able to install the downloads that were needed to get an antivirus program working. The Norton and McAfee programs which were installed into the new towers both had to be removed, in order to get online, which left me unprotected. My long days on the phone to dell, Norton, and mcafee a slow, painfull, frustrating process that i would not wish on any foe, did not solve the problem. my computer guy, (whom now i love) found a program that was not the antivirus & firewall package. installing only the antivirus fixed the problem. Dell install security programs that were not compatible and not a single person from tech support knew of this problem. i think I'll get a Mac.

What was wrong? Why did you have to call? A little more information would have been nice..

Vista is new OS so just be patient until the current programs you are using are updated so that it will be comaptible with Vista. You're not the only person having program compatibility issue...

At work, I was recently given a new computer loaded with Vista (I was the lucky guinea pig) and a few days later, guess what? Yep, I'm back to XP like before.
Vista is HORRIBLE.
Glad I found this out at my employer's expense and not my own.

Vista... Not what I had hoped for. I've about switched to Linux. I got the beta and it was a slowwwww memory hog. I'm not sure there are many computers that can run it well out there at this time. It takes up the resources and it's not even on service pack 2 yet.
If I were you I'd sell the Dell and either get a Mac (what Vista was based on) or get an older computer Maybe a nice p-4 and put Linux on it.
Linux does the Internet and Email very well and very safe, Has a fully functioning office suite, sound editors, dvd players, photo editing software. It's nice. Takes a tad of tinkering and getting use to but the community is pretty helpful.

I spend a lot of time every day on a PC and Server 2003 so a lot of friends ask "what about Vista"? My answer don't be first. I waited a year to upgrade to XP from 2000 and will probably wait a year for Vista if I upgrade at all. I was a Vista beta tester, huge memory hog and very buggy with older apps. If you do upgrade do not assume your older PC app's will install and run right, or at all.

My next new computer will be a Mac... Though I'm probably sticking with my XP for a few more years...

Thanks to their ingenious idea to out-source service to India, and the fact that Dell ships the CHEAPEST parts available, they have lost their #1 position. Just look at their stock...$20-something...6 years ago it was $60 something. Dell is on the way out, is being investigated for fraudulent accounting practices, and has been notifiedy by the Nasdaq Stock Market detailing its failure to comply with listing standards due to the delayed filing of its annual report with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Dell has not filed the annual report for its year ended Feb. 2, 2007, and quarterly reports for the periods ended Aug. 4, 2006 and Nov. 3, 2006, because of a continuing accounting investigation that has found numerous errors, evidence of misconduct and financial control deficiencies.

There are numerous class action lawsuits against Dell.

You should try an HP...#1 world-wide leader and #1 in service and support. Take a look at the dc7700 system.

Miketech: Vista was NOT based on "a mac" in any shape or form. Windows Vista was built from the codebase of Windows 2003 Server. It incorporates elements that many people PERCEIVE as mac-like, but that, too, is debatable. Windows Vista has its share of bugs, but it's only been out a couple of months. As any Mac person can tell you, there is a cost for early adoption (look up the first generation of ANY Apple hardware or software product.)
