Mapquest Complaint - Directions

Review by Tabetha on 2007-04-15
LAWRENCE, KANSAS -- Well for my boyfriends birthday and we wanted to go to gojo's in KC MO and I went to mapquest to get directions from my house to there, because we have never been there before just heard about it. Well when I got the directions from mapquest we got totally lost we had to drive around for about 10 minutes then decided to stop at a gas station to get directions and they told us we are about 15 minutes away from it and asked us how we got our directions and I said mapquest and they said you would be surpised how many people come in to the gas station and ask for directions to gojo's because mapquest is WAY off. So just please mapquest check your directions and make sure they are right seeing how people RELY on the directions!

I've had Mapquest tell me turn "right" when it should have been turn "left". Very frustrating... but it is free so we can't expect too much.

You really have to understand the limitations of this type of service. Considering the amount of data they have they are remarkably accurate. Most of the time. But, they are not perfect. Many times the data they have may be 2 or more years old. They may or may not have information on recent road construction, changes in one-way streets, etc.

If you are not familiar with an area you are going to I recommend using two sources for your information.

Use local.live.com and googlemap.com to ensure accuracy.

Google's map site is http://maps.google.com

I think you should ask for your money back!

'So just please mapquest check your directions and make sure they are right seeing how people RELY on the directions!' Huh? What do you suggest--making a 'dry run' to see if they're right?

I agree with Ken. Demand a refund, Tabetha. (Tabitha?)

Friends of ours used Dexmaps to get directions to go from Arizona City, AZ to L&B Inn in Florence, AZ. Dexmaps had them going by way of Albuquerque, NM, with an 18-hour driving time. My wife gave them directions that had them drive right to the restaurant. It is nowhere near what dexmaps had indicated. In case you are interested, go to mapquest or googlemaps and enter Arizona City, AZ and Florence, AZ.

Mapquest is a lousy place to go, I refer to such sites as having been (geekified) which means a geek has apparently made it difficult if not impossible to use or understand in the conventional sense of normal understanding. I will NEVER try to use Mapquest ever again - because Mapquest has NO common sense.
