Inside Blu Salon Complaint - Why I will not go back to this salon

Review by gause on 2007-04-16
HOUSTON, TEXAS -- Went to this salon looking for an upscale place to start getting my hair done, expecting to pay for good service. It went wrong from day 1. I went in for consultation one day because I wanted to have my hair color stripped out and go strawberry blonde for the summer. Stephane, I was told, was the best for color so we made an appointment for the next week. She told me this would be a 6 hour process (2pm-8pm) but she would do it "right" and it would feel like "silk". I then came in for my appointment and Stephane could not do my hair because she had a rash so her apprentice would do it, which bothered me that they didn't call me to let me know and see if I wanted to reschedule, but Stephane would be there every step of the way to help and guide the apprentice. Never once while I was there did she say that this process was going to be very expensive and they sell a package deal with hair stripping. After I had been there for about 8 or 9 hours and she kept talking about what I get with the "package", I asked her how much this "package" cost me. She said it would normally be $1,350.00!! I nearly choked. She knocked it down to $1,080.00 because the apprentice did my hair. They charge by the hour (which she failed to mention). So I brought up the fact that she quoted me a 6 hour process. She then said that the time ran over and that was not her fault! As if it was mine. So then she got flustered and said fine I will charge you for 6 hours but that is still $900. I mentioned that the math didn't work out for that either. I ended up getting out of there for $720. But still shocked she had the nerve to charge those prices with out saying something upfront. Other salons charge a few hundred dollars for this same treatment. I didn't leave there until 11:30pm. And my hair is a horrible shade with bleach spots in it. I look like a leopard. I have to get it recolored at another salon ASAP! I have never cried so much over hair.

Are you absolutely freakin nuts? I have had my hair colored all over the place and even at high priced salons that's alot to pay. Plus, why wouldn't you ask the price during your consultation and before they started?

My wife tried to teach me how to color her hair... now I see why! $700 seems like a celebrity stylist price...

'looking for an upscale place to start getting my hair done...' I would say you found it. Just how much color did they have to strip from your hair? How many years had you been coloring your hair? There is no chemical made that will completely strip color in only one or two applications. And your 'upscale place' charges upscale prices.

And that is why I will stick to Queens beauty college where I get excellent coloring for $25.00. Chocolate Cherry and it 'does' feel like silk afterwards.

You can strip your own hair color by buying a box or two at your local drugstore then head to a salon to have the color out on...none of which costs $700.
